Alternative Training

If anybody is looking for a different type of cross training, I am involved in a Martial Arts club here in Laragh, and friday nights we have a "fit to fight" session. 8.30 - 9.30/10ish.
It works on core fitness and explosive speed through plyometrics and pad work. Plus the usual sit-ups/squats etc. There is some sparring or grappling at the end if thats your thing, but no one gets hurt. We have no meat heads in the club, nor do we want any. Just a few guys & gals who hate gyms...
Well worth a visit, it WILL get you fit. It's indoors, in a warm hall, In Laragh...

Brockagh Centre, Laragh... Fridays at 8.30. I think it's either €5 or €8 euro. cheap anyway.
If anyone is interested in TaeKwonDo, it is on before that, at 7.15. why not try both?

good recommendation FF
I've done something similar before and would highly recommend it
The whole core/plyometrics/explosive speed aspect is ideal for MTB'ers,
cycling your bike will only get you so far
The pad work etc.. is great for shoulders and back and speeds-up your reactions and strength at the same time, ideal for DH'ers and XC'ers cause you need both when wrestling the bars at speed, also great for avoiding injury
The grappling/sparring also is a brilliant workout, I'd love to do it but I'm a world away on the northside...
Well they do it over here too, except there are meat head and occasionally an innocent does get hurt. I did it for a few years, deadly crack. Beatin the head off people in a controlled environment, can’t beat it. The most dangerous creature alive is the scumbag / pikey cross breeds you get in parts of Finglas and Darndale.

If anyone is interested in finding a place on DNS I know a few somewhat respectable ones.
I'd be well on for it only it sounds great but its pretty far out is there anywhere a little closer to Stillorgan dont mind driving but not for an hour..

cheers
i've tried that but i 'm not getting any fitter just whiter knuckles.... what am i doing wrong??
Treat the pedal on the right as a switch. then switch it on, and ignore the other two.
maybe switch it off briefly at calary hollow, as cars tend to turn over there quite often (2 this week, so far).
white knuckles are normal, as is cotton mouth.
I'm interested in this. Not this week, but the following week i think i'll give it a go.
I joined a mixed martial arts and crafts group recently... it did wonders for my manual dexterity.
There is also a mixed marital arts session, involving keys and fruitbowls.
It's apparently held in skippy's on sat nights.
Brockagh centre, Beside St Kevins Church, 100m from McCoys shop/petrol station, heading towards Glendo. on the same side.
I wear shorts & Tshirt. or tracksuit ... normal gym wear. I have some spare gloves, if there is pad work.
