Had my Cube Reaction stolen from the garden shed on Monday night. It's a couple of years old and has the usual scratches etc. I've attached a photo of when it was new but I've made some changes. The most notable changes from when it was new are:
tyres changed to Maxxis ignitors (tubeless)
stem changed to Raceface.
On the off chance anyone sees it send me a PM or post on this thread.
Any tips on where someone might offload such a bike are welcome also. I've been keeping an eye on the usual websites. I've heard stolen bikes are sometimes sold at flea markets too if anyone has any experience of this
Lovely bike sorry to hear that, just wondering was the shed locked etc as we could learn from this, I have my shed locked and a dirty big lock and chain around my hoard of bikes, but I'm sure they could still be lifted, anyway I will keep an eye out, hope you find it, cheers Terry
some amount of bikes being lifted, sheds , chains and locks are no deterrent , a girl came in to the Superstore on wednesday and her bike, her boyfriends bike and all their tri gear, shoes, wetsuits, spare wheels, all lifted..
Terry the shed had a standard bolt on it (soon to be replaced). It looks like the just cut the piece where the lock was attached so the lock fell out unopened. I had 3 bikes (the Cube was the best one) in the shed. The other two were locked with a u-lock and a krptonite cable lock wrapped around the cube. They cut this easily enough but didn't touch the u-lock. I though the biggest deterent was that there is no side entrance to the house so they had to climb a fence and the neighbour's side gate. Also, the window wasn't blocked so they could see into the shed and know straight away that they could take the bike.
From what I can gather if you have locks that have to be opened by power tools it is more of a deterent but there's somebody somewhere that can open any lock. I also discovered that shed contents isn't automatically covered on home insurance. Things to consider are locks with alarms on them (popular with motocyclists), shed alarms/motion detectors, dogs, wild animals, booby traps etc. Having a tidy shed probably makes it easier to work on the locks and get the bikes out.
If any one sees a scummer doing wheelies on the bike feel free to run them over. Even if it's not my bike there'll be one less scummer knocking around.
