Jaysus that was awesome ..another event dominated by EPICmtb/Expert Cycles ! everybody won something, even if it was just finishing..well done to Alfie Wallace and Max Power 6 hour Hard Men, Orla McClean or Solo 6 Hour honey, Carol and Erica for six hour pairs honeys, Jack and Shona for 6 hour Mixed Honey and Lemons and Stephen Pollock and Colm McGarvey for 2nd place 6 hour hard men ..the rest of us either had mechanical meltdowns, Personal bests and Hormonal Meltdowns..a grea day in the woods with an absolutely brilliant group of people, not just from EPIC but from everywhere..North,South,East and west and well done to Darragh Maloney and Eddie from Bellurgan , you did a fantastic job with your crew of hippies and dogs..Jon Jon Hynes and Oisin Boydell feckin legends too..
Not to mention Dougals ( Rob McSlow) hot
girlfriend Niamh ! and Beardy Conneff for the encouragement..hats off to Richard Lynch at the end of Lap 3 I was 4th behind Willie, Peter McConville and James Pittam and he was 5th ! I destroyed my rear mech in the unmerciful schlomp and he kept going..I hope he finished well up there but I wouldn't count on the results being correct..some ******* had to intervene at the prize giving to make sure the right people got their medals..
The course was a mudfest ..several people suffered rear derailleur discombulation..but most people didn't bad luck..in the dry thats the best trail in the country.
Very poorly attended and I mean shocking..I thought the â¬50 entry was too steep to be honest, however we had a ball, the BBQ was excellent.
THere was hardly any marshall and closing off the corn field after the first hour caused a few screw ups..if you were already in the cornfield when that was done you were at a disadvantage to the guy who came along after it was done.
However, it seemed that Darragh Maloney was in charge of everything on his own with a few inexperienced helpers.
Don't get me wrong I had a great day out, EPIC dominated again but let me be straight here..thats a load of bollox. This is an Iconic event , a brilliant event in a superb venue and it will disappear due to apathy / too many events in August/ absurd management of the calender/ cost. Enlighten me..its a joke when you see people like MBCC travel so far to an event and people an hour away can't be arsed.
No Irish riders at the Olympics, the Blast banned, no representation at an event like the Bull Raid from the Offroad Commission..I take back what I said about the â¬50 charge..it was well worth it when you consider the memories you take from an event like that and the friends made.
My overall opinion of the event was that it could have been so much better if Darragh had not been left on his own to run the show and more effort had been made by Clubs to get their members to it.

A great course poxed by the weather yet again, at one point my rear wheel locked with all the mud and when I got off to push it weighed as much as a Honda 50! I was not one bit surprised when my rear mech exploded, my team mate fared no better and that was that. Good Craic to sit in the sunshine and watch the racers go by. Alfie, Max, Colm, Stephen, RL, Oisin all very impressive. Well done the women too, anyone who had the will to do more than one lap of the schlomp was a winner.
Well done Bellurgan, a lot of work by a small crew, pity the numbers were so low but the Epic contingent had a great time, would love to ride that again in the dry.
Sorry Rich, I was deeply impressed by your bike bouncing mud shedding trick, and I'll always remember the little pat on the bum in the field, i think we shared something then.

The craic in the epic tent was one of the best so far as we were all just suffering with the mud and bike problems so we all just had to get on with it and have fun. Some real huge efforts put in by people to keep going in an energy sapping course, which is no surprise for members of Epic...
Fair play to Daragh and his crew for keeping thing up and running.

Toughest day ever on a bike for me - far harder than the 6 hour I did earlier in the year! I started to get "chain suck" on the 1st lap which got worse as the day went on .... I basically had to walk any of the climbs for the last couple of laps! But funny enough it probably helped me to keep the bike in one piece because I had to be very careful all the time which preserved my rear mech!
Great results for Epic again - well done all!
All the gels and energy drinks had a really nasty effect on my stomach ..... yuch!!!
What a race the most demanding race ive ever done..! no mechanical issues luckily enough bar myself..! i washed the bike down thoroughly after each lap which im sure helped..! Fair play to all the prize winners fantastic stuff and ill never know how the 12hr solo boys kept going incredible..!

Personally I have not moved from the couch today other than to hose down the bike and grab left over pizza. Loved the early laps, the morning flew by, hated the middle ones and maybe it was just the endorphins but really enjoyed the last one, especially seeing the finish line after 12 hours. A great course, tough conditions, and a great sense of personal achievement to have survived it.
Big thanks to KevL for teaming up and putting up with me for the day. Well done to all the Epic crew who took part, and podiumed and condolences to those who lost mechs and minds. Great craic as always in the pits, despite the lack of cups :)
