As usual,very well written and is both calm in its approach,yet its shows mountainbikers to be responsable and respectfull of our land.Good stuff!!

Now there is a letter that should be read. Great read.

Apparently, this type of thing happened in the UK ages ago and from these private land owners developing trails and making money
from them, other groups (Coillte, government etc), eventually see the financial benefits of developing trails and trail centers.
So, I see this as a positive move forward for the sport. I understand, especially in Ireland, this may take a long time. But at least it
seems to be a move in the right direction.
Keep up all the good work Paul, Ritchie and everyone else out there fighting to progress Mountain biking.

Oh, and next week I'm doing what a lot of Irish mountainbikers do maybe once a year..... we'reoff to Wales to ride hundreds of kms of trails..... legaly! Shame I'm outlawed from doing it here.

Richie a well written blog again, but a note in relation to us poor ‘hobbyist’. Please don’t push us down the list of mtb importance, we still have the same feelings, beliefs and appreciation for the mountains and our land, we’re just not lucky enough to get out on our bikes as much as you. I’m not going to even discuss the reasons why ‘hobbyist’ don’t or can’t get out on their bikes more, but believe me when they do they experience the same emotions you are writing about. ‘But apart from me and a couple of others, nobody is going to care’ – I care and the people I ride with on Sundays (at slow pace enjoying the day) care, don’t discount our anger and ongoing annoyance with the managers of our woodlands and their policies. Again a well written blog.

George, thanks, my observations are not meant to insult but to gain a response, I'm not a subtle person and diplomacy is not in my skillset but by writing about hobbyist ( i could have said Goober not caring, well you responded and I think thats an achievement , no offence to Hobbyists were intended , after all I have a reputation to cultivate. I'm really pleased that you took the time out to respond , most people grumble about me behind closed doors . One thing I have to correct you on then is saying I'm lucky to get out as much as I do, Luck has nothing to do it with it, it takes careful planning and singlemindedness ! I have huge respect for people like you who make the effort to get out each week whenever you can. Not everybody is as obsessed as I am.
Now..if you were to choose cycling on the road while the trails are dry, then I would have something blasphemous to say about that
