EPIC tuesday Road spin report

So there you are now..I have even took to reporting on the dreary tedium that is the Road Spin...was there ever an activity invented for dreary people..spinning along at a snails pace talking about politics, shouting " Bowl " every few feet , at least thats what it sounds like " Bowl" , for weeks I kept wondering was it some sort of code for having a sore hoop from sitting down on a bike for two hours looking at the backsides of other hairy men.

At least thats what I used to think until his Royal Highness the Duke of Cork, Richard Pontius Lynch started running the Tuesday night road spin. Well at first i though it was going to be the synchronised swimming of the Bicycle world..loads of people in full length speedoes switching places and shouting hole..not bowl as I first thought

Anyway I wander..the road invented by the Romans to get from one place to another looking for grapes,My new Coach Dr Van Hooseburger tells me the EPO won't work unless I am clocking up the road miles so here I am..grinding along the bus lanes of South Dublin on a Tuesday evening .

Its not Mountainbiking but its not Golf either and Dr Van Hooseburger tells me I ride the mountainbike too much and its having a detrimental effect on my 50 year old body..so I have to replace some MTB spins with the road. Thats ok, it gives me a chance to catch up with the foot soldiers of the Club and mock the non mtbers that slipped past me somehow.
Inanyways yes the road spins help you if you want to be a better mountainbiker but only if you do your turn at the front !! Richard does a great job of keeping it civilized and its a great way to motivate the club in the dark and dreary months of winter as long as people do their turn at the front.
For those of you who haven't tried it get a road bike and join in..
Just remember to do your turn at the front !!
... jeezzz! you have me paranoid now that I didn't do enough at the front!!! Great spin...
Nice one Richie .... Can't believe we've converted even you!

Riding a road bike will never be the same as the thrill of a free flowing single track on a clear bright day but it sure as hell beats changing on the side of the road in Djouce in the pissing rain, pitch dark, howling gale, covered in mud, balancing on one dirty frozen foot trying to put the other one into your sock!!!

Oh .... and it does great things for your base fitness too but as well as not instead of the mountain bike!
'changing on the side of the road in Djouce in the pissing rain, pitch dark, howling gale, covered in mud, balancing on one dirty frozen foot trying to put the other one into your sock!!!'

dont know about that richard...that description sounds like ive just ridden the mtb hard fast and sideways on some of the best singletrack the world has to offer...
deadly
Do people indicate where the hole in question is? I would have thought shouting 'hole' in the dark at speed is like trying to find Lt Uhura with the lights off.
its a funny thing..Richard would never have encountered the Road side of things without me encouraging all the racers to do it a couple of years ago..and what about all those years ago on Howth ,Ken, with Robin, Joe, Giller..this is not a new thing..killiney Hill in the 90's as well..
The road is the easiest way to get fit to ride the bike, regardless of what discipline you ride. I hate night riding for one simple reason..I can't feckin see in the dark regardless of the lights.
But none of its worth a f*ck unless you are doing your turn at the front ..( not you Ken )
i could find her hole in the dark !! oh sorry don i thought you said something completely different .
