Hi, some of us at MAD are planning a trip to Scotland in late March. Weâll be doing the Kilroughtree and Dalbeattie trails over one weekend (apparently 2 of the best ones in bonny scoty). Can anyone recommend accommodation in or near Dumfries/Galloway?

feck off..I already told Conor !!! and he said you were going to Innerleithen and Glentress. I don't think Dalbeattie and Kirroghtree are that good ? Sean can correct me or agree with me on this .
We didn't do Dalbeatie when we were there but I thought Kirroughtree was good, you have to do the big loop, the way out is a bit tame but the return part of the journey is a lot better.
What Colin says about Kirroughtree is all spot on, except the bit about McMoab, which is actually quite fun. One of those things you either get or you don't I suppose.
Don't know much about Dalbeattie. Glentress and Innerleithen are absolutely brilliant, especially the black loops. Ae is largely a waste of time, as well as having a bloody silly name.
We stayed in a place called Marthrown, which is in Mabie forest, though we didn't ride there, just used it as a base. Very good. www.marthrown.com - contact I have written down is Pam Hazlehurst.
Dalbeattie is sheeeite with a capital sh- a fire road meandering round a piece of flat forestry with 17.58% mildly interesting undulating singletrack. Anything else you read is morketing or gooberish-and I'm not nor ever claimed to be representing the hardcore. If you don't want to drive too far do kirroughtree again rather than suffer the dulness. Mabie is a bit more interisting but only really as a stop off point to the propper riding further north.
