Riders of the Year

Ok..ok..the Forum is dead as f*ck, however and I do not care who I upset by my comments..come back to me when you ride and coax as much as I do and then I'll shut up..
first off..
Robin Seymour beating Roger Aiken in this Years CX champs, Bob is 40 plus now, with a woman, a mortgage and a part time job..hes riding less than me, way less than Lynchy and hes still the most amazing rider we have ever had. He eat them all last year at the Blast..at the toughest one of them all. If we had Facebook and this forum sh*t back at his height we would all be friends with him on FB..but i know that his biggest battle of the year was with Roger at the CX..and he won. He won the XC Nationals again but feck that , Robin + Djouce..come on, off Camber nonsense and no long dreary fireroad..o contest.

2nd Alfie Wallace.
My adopted son, plagued by injury, new business owner..drinker , smoker , pulled the rabbit out of the hat by winning the Masters Nationals, the rest of us can play tummy sticks in the other categories but at the moment Masters is the only really competitive category in XC..anybody could have won it but it was Alfie who did. I won't say anymore because it brings a tear to my eye I'm so proud of him.

3rd and the most important because i think hes the undisputed Rider of the Year in Ireland..
Greg Callaghan..
He dominated the DH scene and the Gravity Enduro scene by miles..hes not one bit flash and he has no idea how brilliant he is. Now obviously i wasnt going to go to the sham that was last weekends Foxhunt, after Red Bull robbed our event and handed up some sort of weak diluted version of it..and yeah..did there best to get the Gee lad across the line first by shortening his race and letting him in to the race ahead of the main bunch, Greg had hardly a start on him and still won. So fair play to The Greg, winning an unfair race fairly and squarely.

we are blessed in this country by having many superlative riders and dialled to 11 talents..there are others like Darragh Smith and Steve Pollock , even Jack the Limey , Conor Lavelle and Barry Kellett, David Monty and Leah Maunsell..even people like the Lynch lad..if he hadn't met us , its fairly certain he'd be playing Badminton and collecting sea shells .
Mountainbiking is the source....it will change your life.

Smithers is a brilliant rider..just because he spends most of his time training for the Irish Olympic Team , hes still a brilliant rider !

Jealous much Ray hahahaha Im in there with the legends no mention of you though hahahahaaha, Yes I have to agree the RB Robin rocks and I was so happy for the Alf to get the win, as far as the Greg goes he is a super talented young man and nice chap too we love you Greg!!

You couldn't argue about Robin, the guy really is in a different class to everybody else in the country! His technical ability on a bike, no matter what type, is amazing but what always surprises me is how much he still wants to win, even after 20 years of domination! And yet he still has no problem dropping back on a spin and hauling somebody who's struggling back into the group .... I couldn't see some of the other far less talented "stars" doing that! The overused "Legend" status definitely applies!

Alfie and JD have also had fantastic 2012s and I know they will both treasure their National Champions jerseys for ever! They each approached their years very differently - Alf had work and injury issues but seems to thrive on relatively little training and John worked hard all year! I was really thrilled for them both (and for Epic!) in Djouce in July! And of course then there was Alfie's performance at the ROC .... but I promised Max I wouldn't say anything about that!!!!

After Robin, Greg is possibly the most talented offroad rider we've seen and as Richie says he had a great 2012! I would love to see him work his ass off in 2013 and hopefully. with a few breaks, he could do really well on the European Enduro scene!

Very hard to argue with any of those comments,there are always people who are exceptional at any sport when they are young, however to be as competitive at his age it is almost certain that no rider will achieve what Robin has in his 40 years and his love for the sport!
Without repeating what Richie has said and discussing the fight for second I would like say I have had the best craic riding the bike this year loved all the racing good and bad loved the road trips and the long spins The ROC gang!!! and that great people make a great club.

Robin wouldn't be rider of the year....

XC Riders of the year of course were Alfie who came on form at the right time... And Dorris racing A3 on the road and doing well, and winning the Vets nationals..

Plenty of other guys, such as Evan Ryan always consistent and battles well in the CX race season, Max who had a great season in the NPS...

I was very lucky to be apart of the very early generation MTB days when I started out in 1990/91& to be a member of MAD with my (so cool then) sticker on my handlebars. After coming out of a 16 year retirement the last couple of months I find it incredable that Robin is going strong & still at the top of his game as he was back then.

Back then I raced alongside (at the time) underage/junior legends like Paddy Day, Daragh Mortimer. Its so great even inspiring to see them & the likes of Niall Quinlin, Joe McCall & of course the master Mr Byrne still going strong. On my first attempt back on a Sunday spin with Epic (which was an "epic" failure on my behalf getting dropped & lost in the first half an hour) there was Richie shouting, slagging & encuraging everyone, I said to myself somethings never change in all those years (which is great). Its also great to see my best pal Mr Pollock up there with the top boys, we spent our childhood tearing around on push bikes.

From been away from the sport for so long I really have had to play catch up with whole scene, from the Epic club, all the riders, all the new trails & not forgetting the bike technology. (iv come along way since my Diamond Back "Accent") but its great to see the sport come so far & how many people are involved now.

To be allowed to tag along with some of the Epic midweek spins, meet all these new (to me) faces has been fantastic & everyone has been so friendly. Not only is Robin, Richie, Alfie a credit to the sport, I think you all are & I look forward to hopefully chatting to more of you on the Epic spins.
