Richie Byrne - Most Devoted Award

Well deserved award for Richie, he has been the driving force behind mountain biking in Ireland since the ice age, has built the biggest and best mtb club in the country and is always giving up his spare time to put on spins for people of all abilities. Well done on the Outsider award

Thanks Number 1 ..I deliberately didn't bully EPICers to go as I wanted to win this on my own..I have always been part of the Outdoor scene in Ireland ..from a youth as a paddling Superstar..40th in the Liffey Descent in the 70's as a fake adult..I entered the Pros at 15 pretending to be an elite sort of a person and managed a seriously respectable 40th..then as a Climber..the youngest to do the Ghost in the Quarry ..I was burning with the fires of El Dorado back then..then Drugs and drink and Motorbikes took their toll and I ended up as a washed up has been at 28 but MTB took me on and the rest is history..for reasons beyond my understanding I am addicted to getting people on mountainbikes and up the mountains..mainly because I ****in love people..and I love mountains. I also love bikes..I don't know why , maybe I'm just mental.
During the whole Blastgate thing..I thought about quitting..somebody I had mentored for 20 years blatantly stabbed me in the back and lied thorugh there teeth in some mental attempt to discredit me. This burned me like you would not believe..
Over the years I have unselfishly given up my time to get people on to bikes..I have no idea why..my ego is ginormous and needs no massaging..and the last thing I would like is for people to think I am some sort of nice selfless person..I'm not..there are many people I would love to kick in the bollix and leave lying screaming on the ground..but like I ay , probably due to some sort of insanity I fookin love bringing people up the mountains on their bikes..
I love people, even the gob****es who think they are savage enough for the savage spins and keep turning up on them..thank ALfie that I havent ripped you a new icehole..
This award means more to me than the ones the backstabbing *******s gave us for the Blast because it was voted on by people who judge me from a regular platform. So I am a happy camper..thanks

When I was a kid you looked after me and the other young lads on spins and I know you have been doing pretty much the same for twenty years or so since so just that alone has to mean a lot to many. We may not share your enthusiasm but it doesn't mean we don't appreciate what you have done.

i can't describe how happy I am this morning ! To be recognised by non Mtbers is awesome. There were some heavy duty outdoor people in my category , so I thought there was no way I was getting it. It also means that Mountainbiking has grown up and we are as important a part of the Outdoor Scene like it deserves.
All i have ever wanted for Mountainbiking in Ireland was for it to be up there with Walking, Climbing , Paddling ,etc. So I am well happy and people love my anti Coillte rants !!
