Time to try a 29'er

well now i have one of Irelands top xc racers coming to borrow the anthem 29'er this morning. I have to say I love them but then I just love riding my Mountainbike , you will adapt to them and by jeebus, this is the Epiphany that i had about them.
My favourite kind of a spin would be a big long XC style romp across the mountains, like the WW to Laragh or The Roc , but then I really like those seat of the pants EPIC sunday spins with your arse in the wind laughing at Smithers nearly dying..
So what bike do I use..The 26" Trance is a beauty and I love it, but when you ride the 29'er Anthem there doesn't feel like much difference between it and the Trance on the descents but for flat out climbing and fireroad stuff the 29'er is unbeatable.
For XC racing 29'er all the way without a doubt

I'd take that with a pinch of salt! Those guys ride what they're told to ride and there's no way that the marketing departments of any big manufacturer is putting their riders out on 26s these days!

I agree with you Richard, if you are good enough to win on a 26 er you will stil win on a 29 er.
What I mean is the best riders will still win.

None of this clarifies the question, if I buy one am I guaranteed to win the club league? I'll be damned if I'm buying one to go from 9th to 8th.

To win the Club League Don you either need to turn up (on a 26 or 29!) every single week, like me or just cheat like the dirty, scheming, slithery 2012 champ!!! I'm not bitter .... really!!!

Now that sounds like a cheaper option, I'll wear down the fast lads with by metronome like consistency.

No Don, everybody in front of you will also be on 29er's this year....yeah Duggan that just proves that 29's are very popular and that those people there all did well.....I think this whole 29er thing is just another one of those fads likes disc brakes, tubeless tyres, suspensions forks and stuff, they may never catch on.

Well I, for one, refuse to get involved in this marketing led bull****, I will not be led down the road of frivolous spending, of investing in unnecessary technology - I will not be swayed ........ or at least not until I can afford to upgrade!!!

i'm waiting for the 650B, hopefully they wont' look as ridiculous on a small bike ;-(

650b is the ultimate scam or scamola! If you are going to change something at least go for it. Get some 2.4 Conti Rubber Queens Shona, 650b diameter without having to change your wheels.
