So it's time to park the High Roller 2.3 Super Tacky that I have been dragging around for ages. Now, what a tyre, I can't think of any other tyre that can take such a beating and NEVER let you down, they are awesome. But they are heavy, and the do drag like a mofo', and mine is kind of falling apart. So I'm now looking for something 2.3 ish, geared toward AM but not so heavy or draggy.
Tyres that are out: Rubberqueens – Rubbishqueens more like (sorry Rudolf!) Ignitor – Been there, done that.
Considering: WTB Bronson, I hear good things but do they drag much? Nobby Nics, typical Schwalbe fragility but with Snakeskin, DD and stuff are they dependable? I like the way they roll… Purgatory, I hear good things too...
Don't know what your issue with the RQ is Don, I think it's a deadly tyre, no issues or punctures since I put it on last summer, goes like on rails. Ok, too heavy and slow for XC (I had it on for the Blitz) but great for Enduros!
I'm very curious about the X King 2.4.... I have the 2.2 protection version on the XC bike and they are fantastic, as light as Schwalbe but much stronger and plenty of grip in all conditions.

That link is to the X-King Max .... is it the X or Race that you use for XC? Put on X-Kings myself for yesterday and really liked them but felt I needed to run them at lower pressures!
Sorry I have the X Kings on the hardtail, I put them on for the ROC but also tried them here in the muck and they are great. Alfie loves them too, he had them on since the Nationals I think.
do you know what I hate the most about this nonsense, its not even remotely interesting and only serves to confuse beginners and the inexperienced. I don't use continentals because i could get MAxxis for free ..but as long as I've been mountainbiking Continentals have been around,people get their panties in a bunch and blame tyre performance when they are in denial about their own ability as riders..put an end to this dreary debate before I stab somebody in the eyes with my thumbs !!
i've said it before , the tyres are the tyres, Smithers can ride Rocket Rons like they are dh tyres, fcuked if I know how, but you part timers wreck my head because you can barely mount the kerb without getting out of breath and yet you have loci on the best grip and rolling resistance of a tyre all nailed down on a pamphlet. I grudgingly admit that science has a lot to do with Mountainbiking but personally I think its more about magic and everybody knows rubber does not conduct magic.
