So the rear mech was getting fierce hard to shift, felt like the lever was going to snap in my hands, some serious cable issues. So whip out some new outers (white of course) and new cable, get the bike up on the stand in the kitchen surrounded by tools and get to work. In the process I see that the chain really is shot so into my magic drawer and out with a new chain, silly 10 speed Shimano with the joining pin you have to break off, that never feels right. Hmm, new chain, old block (though not that old), teeth look fine but a slipping chain will send you to the nut house. Nothing drives me more crazy than drivetrain issues so back too the magic drawer, hmm shiny XT block, that will do. Back to the shed, get the torque wrench and chain whip, 40Nm and off and on it goes. If you don't have a torque wrench get one, it makes changing the block so easy. Quick tweak of the indexing and everything feels sweet as a nut. Very satisfying altogether. I really don't trust that connecting pin thoughâ¦.
The old chain had a KNC powerlink I'd like to keep, anyone know how to disconnect those?
When grip shift first came out the retrun spring on the rear mechs wasn't strong enough so you could replace it with an after market one. I rember the first time I dismantled my rear mech to upgrade. The cage waas catapulted accross the kitchen behind the cooker never to be seen again

the missing link CANNOT be easily removed/uncliped unless you have the knc removal tool, its NOT tool free

Recent manufacturing changes to the MissingLink provide a better engagement and more rider safety. This makes removal harder to do by hand but it still can be done. If you are still having difficulty we recommend our MissingLink Remover tool.

fantastic, nothing like an aul fettle to pass the time and spark new life into the bike...try wheel building, really therepeutic if youve an hour or so in the evenings....just ensure the missus dont mind the truing stand on the coffee table
Little anthem fully stripped and expecting frame back from Alfie Friday so my Firday night will be a fettle night, missus away and young lad can watch and learn :)and maybe hold a spanner or two.might do a brake bleed while I am at it....but I hear ya on the chain link thing...Shimano easier for sure
