Inflating tubeless is always an adventure and potential journey into the surreal, I've had a good run, the last 4 or 5 have seated no bother with either a track pump or C02, no soap required, pop, pop, pop. I knew it was too good to last. Last night it was a Nobby Nics turn, easy to mount, goo in, time to inflate. Track pump not a hope, pumping like a nut much to the kids amusement, sweating like a hog, feck this, out with the C02, get the gloves on, this could be bad. I had a vision of Fergals recent tyre explosion. First canister no joy, WTF, try another one, ah here, nothing. OK, think man, think!! Out with the valve core, back with the track pump, oh baby now we're in action, pop, pop, pop! Valve core back in, re-inflate, happy days. 50psi, come back a while later flat. Hmmm, swish the goo around, back up to 50psi. Flat a while later. Easy, easy. Pump it up, fill the sink with water, the feckin wheel doesn't fit in the sink, I'm starting to twitch now, there's a vein protruding from my brow. Throw some water around the place, but hello, some tiny bubbles around valve and rim, I have you now!!! Swish some goo around the valve area and moments later no more bubbles. This morning the tyre is 100% and I have nearly recovered, mother of God.

Haha I had the same problem with a set of Nobby Nics just the other day too. I ended up putting in tubes and inflating them to 50-60 psi and I left them overnight. Then tried again the next day and the tyre had a better shape from being inflated and they went up without much problem. Putting on tubeless is never a simple experience!

Aldi had these mini compressors a while back and it has saved me countless hours like that. If they come in again I'll post it's a great but very noisy yoke

The time I converted my tires to tubeless I got a Presta to Schrader converter for about 2euro, threw the wheels into the car and headed down to the local petrol station pumped them up first time not a bother.
The last time I tried a petrol station the bloody pump sucked all the air OUT of my tires, on my car too, I kid you not, the pump was wired backwards.

I pumped some up at my petrol station a while back and as I stood there examining my handiwork the tyre flew off he rim with a bang, I was lucky to escape with a bruised hand, tinnitus and having to explain my situation to all and sundry, not easy when the hearings not working well not to mention the state of shock, a lucky warning.... Next time it will be pump, run and hide behind the car!

Also worth noting (although pretty obvious i guess..) if the tyre/wheel have been mounted tubeless before, peeling off the layer of old hardened laytex/gloop on the inside of the bead & rim helps big time when trying to inflate them

its not that they are Nobby Nics..its the Tubeless ready nonsense that causes the problem..lightweight tyres are too porous , if you want no nonsense tubeless, UST tyres all the time. Failing that use washing up liquid on the beads and rims of normal tyres and a compressor. I've tublessed loads of rim and tyre combinations..I found Maxxis to never fail , Scwalbes were the most difficult and Continentals, Michelins, Vredestein, WTB no problem either..when you get a set of Mavic Wheels you get a little bag of goodies including a Presta to Shrader adapter..its much better than the after market ones you buy sometimes they are too long for compressor nozzles..the easiest way to go tubeless is UST rims and Ust tyres. Using the rim tape and assorted tyres and rims is a tricky business, dont panic and remember that like all bicycle workshop things..a Bike Mechanic is doing it every day , hes seen the fcuk ups and hes developed a knack for things.
