Ahm no.. why would you think that? I jut kept it short because I dont like writing long blocks of text and then get no answers. I think all the information is there though really, just want two questions answered, should i buy proper cycling clothes, (whats the advantage of them)
And should i get protection, Its roads im cycling on, rocky roads. I'm a bit scared to fall sometimes and id rather not be.
yes you do need proper Cycling gear, a base layer, Jersey, shorts, tights, leg warmers, arm warmers , you can run various ensembles with them for XC, you can always use the same gear for enduro and even dh if you like. If you fall off up the mountains wearing cotton you will die.
Synthetic fabrics keep you warm even when wet, cotton will keep you cold and dead.I could go on and on and on..
as for protection, its entirely up to you but if you are afraid to fall off mtbing then take up something else, you are guarenteed to fall off and if you dont then you are not trying hard enough.
Anybody who doesn't wear proper Mountainbike clothing and I don't just mean lycra, theres plenty of good baggy outdoor gear you can wear too..the advantage is its way more comfortable than cotton gear and safer..
if you are only starting I would recommend knee pads, and possibly elbow, as you will cream yourself plenty of times, that's the buzz of the whole thing,
I used to wear lycra and knee pads, not a pretty site but it saved my knees many a time.
Riding with lads from any of the clubs especially Epic will teach you loads, but it's a bloody tough sport.

So yeah I have gone Mountainbiking before, in ballyhoura and somewhere else aswell cant remember the name. For that I recieved a helmet and a bike but no more! And i was just wearing regular clothes.
Right now I am just cycling bog roads, some are dirt and rocks and others are fireroads. Protection all in all i guess is up to me, Im just asking how neccessary you guys see it as.
And as for clothes

Well those benefits seem odd. Ive never been cold while mountain biking. if i stop for long enough maybe but then all i have to do is start again. That said cold sweat is not very nice. I ws expecting something that would deal with sweat well while letting you breath and keep you warm but not to warm..
So what do i NEED? something like this? http://www.ebay.ie/itm/281091006305?...84.m1438.l2648
go to your local bike shop they will have everything you need- go to one of the better stores and they'll even have good advice for free.
Well, did this today and guess what i was told? - Nothing Really! A Pair of shorts he told me, maybe just a jersey then, regular clothes like. He may have even suggested cotton, he certainly didnt warn me against it when i asked him about it (So much for the YOU WILL DIE thing )
Anywayz, it was the one in the corm store. (galway)

Yeah, I havent a clue what I'm talking about, a duffel coat over a pair of Pyjamas will do grand and crocs on your feet..you'll be grand..I'm running a spin in the Morning, 9.00 at Djouce woods, i'd love to see you there..you can explain to me what I've been doing wrong for nearly 3 decades .
this reminds me of that time I did the NPS about 3 years ago in Galway (I did s4 as it was my first year and I finished 8th in a huge field seeing as you've asked) anyway - the bike fell off the back of the car (the f'in bike rack was crap) so the tyre was torn off- I went into a bike shop in Nenagh, Tipp, and asked the owner could I have a Maxxis tyre 2.1 or equivalent? He told me the following (put on your best Tipp accent here) 'I've been racing mountain bikes for 20 years, and (looking at me as if I had just asked him to eat my nuts) we SELL a STANDARD mountain bike tyre'
I left cracking my sides with laughter . . . in fact I have a buddy at work and we use this analogy any time someone feeds us bull****.
