First Aid on spins

I think we need to organise this better, especially on long spins like Sunday or Tuesday.
Today's incident was a good example and the only person prepared was Rudolf and he's not even in the club!

I will carry a first aid kit going forward but will ask someone else each time to carry a spare tube for me etc. Just not enough room in my pockets!

Also, I will be arranging a First Aid course after Xmas (need a refresher for my TCL cert) so we should get a few people in the club to do that too. Especially new members who often ride in their own smaller group etc.
Yep rudolph was on the ball today. Thanks again rudolph. Im sure we can organise some essentials between us on the group spins ...
Think I'll put together a first aid pack and we can nominate someone different to carry it each week
Put a pack of celox granules into it, perhaps McGarvey could organise a few, this stuff is pretty hard to get (and expensive)
Good idea max, we could look very stupid if someone had a really bad fall, fair play to Rudolph as the flies were tucking into it. Vampire flies I think
Hello all,
Niamh Gaffney here , fellow mountain biker and first aid instructor.
I have just finished a biking specific first aid course with another mtb club and noticed your post re first aid.
I do a 4 hour first aid course for biking clubs and normally this costs €60 but if you have minimum of 10 it is half price.
Sorry for hijacking post !

How much do you cover in 4h? Seems quite short, I presume it's just the basic stuff?
For the TCL certification to be valid (that some of us would have) we need the REC 3 or Wilderness First Aid (refreshed every 2 years), which takes 2 full days....
However, it's better to have some training than none at all!

Hi again,
I do rec 2 and rec 3 also but the mountain biking specific covers injuries commonly suffered by bikers , head and spinal is covered also. If you want a separate cfr certification with basic first aid this is a full day course which is possible.
Never nice to here of injuries while riding... but I've gotta ask... what happened? and what was the injury?
As a full time professional in emergency medicine my off duty time is split between a number of extreme sports. I do carry a small kit on MTB rides but my dilemma is always how much is enough to carry.

So of interest would be some facts or difficulties encountered today.

Thanks
Yeah this definitely needed, only for colm carrying a first aid kit when I had my spill I would of had half me leg still up in glendalough , 14 stitches on Glendo took that fight but I'll be back.
Nothing serious at all, just a small enough cut.
Good reminder though that we should be prepared

slightly off topic but ties in with first aid, is having a good communication chain during a spin
i.e - everyone has the spin leaders mobile No for that spin and the leader has everyone's number
