Hi,
Can anyone recommend some spots for some long smooth fast trails, a bit like the section after the main boardwalk in Ballinastoe or the bit before the carpark? Not talking flat but less rock and root, maybe a bit more open, few dips etc
Cheers

Ahh Jesus! Why don't u just start road cycling. I think lawdie is right, u need to get out with a group
Eh... Thanks
I enjoy it all but really like the narrow twisty smoother sections where you can go fast as you like without totally rattling the sh1t out of everything. Like the nice long section in Ballinastoe with the bit where people have cut a dip by skipping the turn. Just wondered if anyone could point me where there are any longer trails like that for the occasion when thats all you want. I plan on getting a full sus when I have the cash but in the meantime I'll give Rostrevor a visit

Are you serious? you don't like bumpy trails? Mountain biking may not be for you so! Maybe road cycling, or even cyclocross, though that's bumpy also.
For starters one of our members has a hardtail with carbon forks and narrow tyres, ultimate boneshaker bike but certainly does not slow him down on the gnarliest of trails.
Anyhoo, before you say anymore you should keep an eye on forums like this, and MAD, IMBRC for beginners spins, you'll learn more in a couple of hours than reading about it online..
Rostrevor is class, so is Ballyhoura in terms of smoothness...
Don't mind the slagging, just come on one of the Saturday spins, sometimes it's not about the trails but the craic you have with people, you will be having so much fun that you won't notice the bumps!
From what I understand, it's not you do like the bumps, you just want some flowy trails occasionally...I honestly get that, nothing like a smooth trail centre type fast flow track when you're in the mood for it. I love that section in Ballinastoe! Locally Balli is your best bet, but as Max said Rostrevor is awesome for that and Derroura or Ballyhoura. I'd still advise club spins so you get a feel for what else is out there cos trust me there's some great spots
Kona
we did some of those yesterday in a forest - reminded me of the scene in one of the star wars films where they are wizzing through a forest on floating jetbikes -lovely soft smooth forest floor rather than roots..
But I'm not telling you where it was! - come out on a spin with the club one day and then you'll really enjoy the sport - I mean then you'll ***king love the sport!
