Body armour. What to buy

Hi lads,
Brother in law broke his scapula (shoulder blade) and is out for at least 3 months, now I've 2 dilemmas. 1 is I've no riding buddy for ballyhouras trails and secondly I don't want to end up like the brother in law as the poor lad is in agony, so I've decided to invest in some protective kit. Now I know the trails up there aren't serious but I would mind having some that doesn't make me look like a knob or an American football player.

Any suggestions for some good but subtle padding for torso would be welcome as I've broken my back and neck surfing before and don't fancy it again.

Evoc backpack that has a back protector built in - fits nice n comfy, I've had mine for about 18 months now and it never feels like too much.
