Whats clear?

Which tracks, mountains are clear and usable? Which are best avoided due to too much surface water and possible damage to the trails.

3-Rock is surprisingly ok - Ballinastoe was still un-rideable yesterday - Leadmines is fairly clear of snow but club course is really "beat-up" - don't know about anywhere else!

3 rock is ok as far as kilmashogue, then the trails are full of snow, Fergals tracks are clear but in ****e.

Up around the MAD end of Three Rock today - a few trails are bone dry, most have random lakes and will need some fixing before they ride well again.

Rock and Roll - the trail that is always dry his rivers flowing on it :(

Yeh old mad loop is drier than ever but everything else is poxed. Best to stay off them a while and let them dry out a bit

3rock is like a big boggy sponge - it was wet enough before the snow, now the meltwater has nowhere to go, except.......up!

Whats wrong with digging drainage ditches? Every now and then you could dig them right across the trail, great incentive to learn to bunny hop.

There is a thread over on IrishDH at the mo about getting ppl motivated to get up on 3rock and do some digging.

Every time I go up 3rock I make a point of ensuring that I do exactly that. Dig drainage channels wherever I find standing water on the trail. Only takes a couple of mins and gives you that warm fuzzy feling thinking about the next dood down the hill not adding to the erosion.

Is there some kind of initative in place regarding building stuff on three rock, or getting an area sanctioned for mtb's?

no, nothing official, not in the short term anyway, but a gang of us in MAD do a fair bit of work up there, and it's generally fast/fun XC stuff we dig - usually well concealed and no stupid stuff thus no hassles from anyone

a few of us are going to be up there this Fri in case you are around,
no probs if not, I'll drop you a PM when we're going up next
I might also head up on Sat to do some work

Yup I'm in the Trinity club so I know Tom and Steve, and have met a few other around. Friday is good for me, apparently its only about 40 mins cycle anyway so if Tom has college (fat chance) I'll make my own way out.
