.. buy a BMX bike? I can ride bikes over most things, XC-freeride, hard.
So, should I learn to do BMXish tricks. Is it too late? If not, will it help trail techniquewise, XC-freeridin', railin-berms, bein' stoked 'n' sh1t.
Or will I just hurt myself? Or have so much fun that I won't care if i die? Or should I just get over it and go for a hard (HAAARRRD) spin tomorrow, cos I'm haaardd .
I'd actually value some opinion here. Can an old dog learn new tricks?
Buy a DH bike instead.
1. Will likely achieve more given you ride an XC bike.
2. It's not uncool to wear a st1t load of body armor.
3. It will improve your XC riding.
4. You probably don't fit into skinny jeans anymore and to words skinny or skin tight have no place in DH.
5. You are guaranteed "Stoked n sh1t"
Oh crap. Morning. No more drinking and thinking for me. Bloody BMX! Thanks for the reply though Bren, maybe DH is the way forward. Even if I did buy a BMX I'd look pretty effin stoopid mixing it with the local 10yr olds.
get a bmx and revel in the deadlyness that is pump tracks. Your wheels never have to leave the ground so very little chance of doing any proper damage to yourself. You'll have so much fun you'll wonder if its legal. Herself will no longer think the purchase of a bmx was a mid life crisis but when you start digging up your back garden to install your own track she'll know you have lost it.
I'm not saying don't go for it by any means. I'm all for giving stuff a go. Currently I'm joining my ten yo down the skate park on a set of blades older than every one there.
I have to say having preteens come up to offer you advice on anything even technique is pretty surreal.
You'll certainly enjoy the pump track in St. Annes. I just think you'll get more from DH.
There's a really good scene in this club for it.
I've been thinking about a getting BMX too so your not alone in your madness
BMX,DH..cop onto yourselves and play Golf, or knitting, at your age you should be thinking about relaxing and minding yourselves..theres no fools like old fools..I wouldn't be caught dead acting the thick at your age !!
Thanks for the input chaps, gettin' the impression some of you chaps have been around the block a few times. Elderly Pursuits In Cycling?
That pump track in St Anne's does look deadly, that's what got me thinking BMX in the 1st place.
Whatever my next bike is it'll have to brought home under cover of darkness. Herself is already remarking on the number of bikes in the shed and how I couldn't possibly need any more. Ever.

Byrner was 41 before he started acting the thick. Before that he was a sensible Worcie!
