Fractured Kneecap

Hi guys,

I'm only posting this to see if any of the members are familiar with a fractured kneecap, has recovered from it or gone through this specific process...
I'm at the hospital waiting to have surgery done in the kneecap this afternoon, after I got hit by pulling in car while commuting my bike.
They basically wire kneecap up, in order to get a strong bone healing.
Any thoughts or experiences?
Sorry to read that Oscar! heal up soon, we're all thinking of ya! take good care man!

Ouch! Hopefully a speedy recovery
If it's just the bone damage you'll be grand, just give it time and follow doctors orders!
Plenty of Easter eggs help too.
Different procedure, but I had microfracture surgery on my patella a few years ago (small holes drilled in the patella to try and encourage cartilage growth). Best advice is get a good physio - I had a good bit of muscle weakness afterwards which became apparent when I started to ramp up cycling again. My VMO basically switched off and tightened my ITB - squats helped enormously. A friend fractured his patella in a crash and had similar issues to me.

Aidan Woods (Pearse St) and Ailbe McCormack (Ranelagh) helped me with injury rehab. Good luck.
Ouch buddy, glad it wasn't more serious with that car!
Good luck with the op and recovery
Sorry to hear that. I was expecting you to say it happened mountain biking. Just goes to show you are probably safer mountain biking than cycling on the roads with idiot drivers not paying attention to cyclists.
I was nearly hit by a truck the other day. The driver thought he could pass me out and squeeze past the car on the other side, misjudged it, braked hard and came within inches of my elbow. Scary.

Hope you heal up quick.
Fractured Kneecap

Thank you guys for the encouraging words, and now after my 5th day in hospital doctors also start looking at situation positively, so do I.
Not too bad for only having an ankle, toe and kneecap brocken, but in the way they did were not in the worst manner I could ever had them, so now I must say I'm a lucky guy.
Looking forward to the recovery and be on the training program and spins as soon as possible.
Good luck with the recovery Oscar & I hope it goes speedy for you! For sure those roads are a dangerous place
Sounds awful Oscar, get well soon. Listen to the Physiotherapist and work hard on that and you should make a full recovery.

Agree with you Alan and CaroMCA.
I always though and think it's dangerous on the roads, always wary when on the road with the bike.
