Wicklow 200 June

A colleague in work was asking me if I think it would be possible for him to do the Wicklow 200 and if I knew of a training plan for it. He has done no exercise since last October but has cycled up to 40k before and has a good road bike and has road cycling experience. Anyway I presume it's about him building up mileage. He stength trains too but hasn't been able to exercise since last October.

Long story short I presume there is people on this with experience in this and could you tell me what to tell him. Or can you point me to any apps , training plans or anything! Thanks a mill ! My sisters husband did it so I can ask him too.
Not a huge amount of time to train for that distance, but if he's up for a long day on the bike (at least 8 hours) and plenty of climbing he should be alright.

Only advice I can give is to spend as much time on the bike as possible.
I've not done the Wicklow 200, but have done a number of similar events. The biggest challenge he'll have if his longest ride so far is 40kn is mentally. Just the pure time in the saddle and the fatigue for the last few km will be a physical and mental challenge.

I'd suggest training wise he consider interval sessions during the week and try build up his distance and saddle time on weekends. He won't need to train for 200km but if he can get a couple of 100-120km spins in beforehand it would help. Learning when and how to eat and drink on longer spins is essential, small regular amounts before you think you need them.
He should avoid the temptation of going out hard, and try and find a few others of similar level to ride with, the company helps the miles cruise by

The mental aspect is the hardest part for me with the longer days on the bike, you can have some horrible patches along the way (especially if you're hangry) and it can be difficult to stay focused and ride your bike properly. It won't be easy, but it's doable with training and determination.
Thanks guys really appreciate that , I'll tell him all this. He said yesterday that there is a 100k option too but he wants to do the 200k. And he thinks I'm Crazy doing MTB ?? Thanks all!
