MTB'ing in Wicklow

Hi to all forum members, this is my first post.

I will be visiting Ireland this summer and would like to go riding in Wicklow. I will be driving from Wexford to Derry and would like to stop on the way and get a few hours riding in.

I am obviously attracted by the fact that the EWS is held on Carrick Mountain. Is it possible to go up there on your own and find the trails?

Would I be better off going to Ballinastoe and riding the trail center there?

Any other recommendations?

Grab a copy of the EWS course map (satellite photo with runs overlaid) and you should be able to find most of the runs pretty easily. If enduro is your thing my view is it would be more fun that a loop around Ballinastoe, which is not going to be much different to any other average trail center you have ridden. As an alternative, seeing as you are going to Derry, try the trail center in Rostrevor (Northern Ireland), as the red/black run is a lot more challenging and fun that Ballinastoe. Enjoy!

Thanks for the responses. I am planning to stop by Carrick Mtn or Ballinastoe on my way to Derry from Wexford and I'm planning to make a trip to Rostrevor too.

I live in Spain and the whole concept of trial centers haven't really caught on here so for me riding purpose built trails will be quite novel.

My plan is to go riding there on monday the 28th of August (talk about planning ahead!) so if anyone is on holiday and can meet up I would be extremely grateful for some local input.
