I am new to boards here and I am trying to get some help. I know little to nothing about Ireland and I am making my first trip(from the US) this summer. I will be living in Dublin studying at Trinity. I was wondering if you guys could help me out with my project. I have to study a Travel and Tourism destination in Ireland and I wanted to focus on a mountain biking location. Are there any resorts or services to focus on? Are there an Gravity Resorts? Thanks for any and all help.
Welcome to Ireland ,Rico. mountainbiking in Ireland is only beginning to get trail centers and we're a long way from gravity resorts, this is a Club Forum and can be anarchic, so you may not get the most sensible information here, my advice to you is ask the same question on the Mountainbike Association of Dublins forum, www.madmtb.com or contact these 2 guys, (fergal.kilkenny@gmail.com,sean.herlihy@ie.pwc.com ) they are basically the sensible people and are the in-charge guys, when you get here give us a shout, we can bring you on the best trails and guarentee you a savage day out,

thanks for the help. I will be riding as much as I can. I am not sure how much of my gear I will be bringing out. what are the essentials for riding around ireland?

It can get damp here to say the least and some people wear all the fancy raingear and footwear.
I would say that if you want to mtb in Ireland all the time, then you really need to be a bit mental and tough.
Its not for the fainthearted or lazy. But there are a lot of people who are fairweather or weekend riders. God love them. And apart from the few trail centers you have to be shown where all the gems are.
Theres a couple of MAD lads in Trinity , I think they have a club, they'd be happy to loan you gear i'd say,

I may get in trouble for saying this as Tom and Steve seem to be very attached to them, but the Trinity Club itself has a Commencial DH something or other as well as a Kona Stab Supreme, and two XTC hardtails, which you will be welcome to when you're over, they're club bikes and so anyone in the club is welcome to use them, subject to availability. We also have very limited storage space on campus, so you MIGHT be able to store your own bike with us when your over, but don't count on it. Also we only have bikes, no gear or helmets, etc atm, though we hope to fix this next year.
Ah don't be silly Tommy, the bikes are there at all times for anybody with a bit of experience to take. As you know yourself, we can't be handing out full on downhill bikes to beginners.The carnage would be unreal! You just need to send me a mail and the bike is yours.
