The committee are working away in preparation for when the club are allowed to organise spins, run the club league and maybe even organise a CX race. We have also been discussing what the club can do for the members at this time.
Having reviewed the finances we decided that in the absence of anything else to spend the club's money on, to make membership for the rest of the year free. Yep, nada, zitchl, zero.
If you already paid your membership for 2021 you will be getting a refund in the next 5 - 10 days (this is Stripe's timeline).
If you have not already renewed your membership, head on over the CI website, get your licence for the year and sign up. You need either a Leisure Licence (spins only) or a Limited Competition (club league) licence.

Hi Gareth, I suppose technically speaking yes it would cost €90 to legitimately take part in the club league but only because its a requirement to hold a Limited Competition License to take in part in any offroad race, but as far as I am aware for the last few years this has always been the case. I could see where paying €90 to take part in a series of club races could seem expensive, but this is a requirement of CI that any offroad race held by any club whether it be an open event or club race that riders must have an LC licence. I could be wrong but as far as I am aware clubs dont see a cent of licensing fees and we would all love not to have to pay them but when I look at a day licence fee is about €20 for one race I kind of feel like €90 tto cover potentially a whole club league and all club spins going forward then its not bad value.
Its more important now more than ever to comply with all thats asked of us as a club as we all know it has taken years to build a relationship with Coilte to allow us to continue racing the league in the leadmines and god forbid someone has an accident without holding the valid licence, if it got back to Coilte then I would imagine it would be game over for us holding any further events.
I’d happily give €90 to the club but not to happy to have to give it to cycling Ireland.
how are you going to check if everyone racing has a racing licence?
Hi Gareth, I am sure most of us that renew the license and club membership every year would rather pay the money straight into the club but we dont make up these rules, just like any MTB club we have to adhere to a fair few guidelines just to be recognised as a club. The simple fact of the matter is any hockey, gaa or any other sports clubs will not let anybody take part in any training or matches unless enrolled and payed up to whatever that club protocol is.
In answer to your question, when it comes to checking to see who has renewed their race licence I dont think that would be a problem as the club has to have members registeration system but do we actually want to have to go through all that, absolutely not as we all lead busy lives and are not interested in becoming part time enforcement officers, were just a committee trying to keep the show on the road out of love for what I still think is the best mtb club in the land. Pay it, dont pay it, its not going to effect my everyday life, but as I outlined before many a club member has been involved in trying to secure the Leadmines as our own go to place to hold the league, if we make a balls of that down to something stupid well I dont think that would be the best for the club going forward for future events or the weekly club race, we are in a great position at the moment with Coillte and to mess all that up would be a shame.
I’m not having a go at the club and appreciate the effort gone into getting our club league going again and made official, I’m just a bit miffed to have to give Cycling Ireland another 90 on top of what I’ve already paid them.
Hi Gareth, if u have already taken out a €50 Leisure license with CI then it just needs to be upgraded to the €90 Limited Competition License to do the club league, So basically pay the extra €40 to upgrade.
The Leisure licence covers us for Epic club spins but sadly doesnt cover us for anything thats classed as a race.
Goodstuff Gareth, I upgraded mine from leisure to LC on the CI website mid way through the year in 2020, pretty sure it was straight forward. See ya on the trails.
