Club Champs 2021

Hi All,

The course for tomorrow is attached. It is the same as last year and will be a three lap race. The start will be at the usual location. You will be gridded by start time, i.e. those who go off at 19:06 will be on the front row and we will work back from there. Unlike the regular club course there will be a road crossing at the bottom of Section 2 and the second path crossing (labeled 'Dublin Mountain Way' on the map). Please exercise extreme caution when crossing these paths/roads.

Another great evening for racing around the leadmines. Thanks to everyone who came out and raced. The trails were dusty and the pace fast (on the spin back to the Golden Ball to celebrate McGarvey’s victory).

We had a nice group of riders from other clubs support the race (thanks all). Geof Robinson was first home for the visitors (had he taken his place on the front row he might have troubled Colm for a bit) closely followed by Ger O'Donnell. Faith put in a storming performance (building on what was clearly a warm-up race at last week's Nationals :-) to take the overall women.

Huge thanks to Ronan and Muiris for preping the course beforehand which improved the overall experience, and to Brian, Neville and Hugh for starting and marshaling.

Personally, I had a great race with Micky, Rory Jon and Emmet who I've been racing against this season. The first lap and a half was steady enough with Jon and Micky making the moves and the rest of us trying to hang on. As we got into the climb out of Section 3 on Lap 2 the gaps began to open up and I got past Emmet, Rory and Jon and was chasing down Micky / trying to get away from the chasers. I managed to catch and pass Micky at the very bottom of Willet's trail but he kept the pressure on all the way back up. I tried to get around Colm O'B on Section 2 but he dropped the hammer and I was left hanging on to the very end.
