It has been mentioned to me on several occasions about Sports this and bangers that, and the gap from beginner to Sports is huge..and from what i've seen over the years..its true to an extent..
One of the reasons an Intro Category hasn't been used is manpower and hassle.
Considering the amount of times organisers have attempted a Fun Category, and 4 people have turned up..
But i think with the explosion of riders using Ballinastoe, that maybe it would be worth having one last go at it.
The Entry would be minimal.
One day Licencers only.
No prizes just your lap time posted.
What do people think..bear in mind..theres no sense in seasoned racers responding..they have forgotten what its like to really suffer and struggle around one lap.
I am aware too of Sports riders dying out the back on 2 laps.
So I'm looking for new people or people who've never raced.
This is the last NPS of the year.
Can somebody put this up on the MAD forum, as my login Name is not conducive to serious discussion over there.

i think it would be worth giving it a go .there's loads of sunday bikers lurking in these here hills who are not club members,go for spins in twos and threes,may not be aware of nps or races taking place or think they're not hardcore enough to race.this is how most of your redneck members came from.maybe advertising outside of club forums would help too
Sounds like a fantastic idea, me and the wife would both be up for this.
Just off the phone with my brother and he says he would give it a go as well.

I was just talking to someone about trying racing today before I read your mail. They were interested in giving it a go but were intimidated. I think they would go for this though - I reckon go for it. Put up a poster in Ballinastoe. Only issue I can see is cost - race entry and one-day license fee or can you get around this?
well I reckon we have to have the one day licence fee and charge â¬5.00 Admin cost unless some nice company wants to sponsor the event..!
Can't be fairer than that..I think the problem before as well was the stupid term ' Fun'..
So I was thinking of calling it The Introductory Race ..

Sounds like a great idea Richie. Now I’m torn between a rock and a hard place. Having done my 1st NPS event last weekend it was hard going. The course /distance were a challenge but very do able for a beginner like me. There are a few lads out here in Stones that would be very interested in this type of race. If I am honest and had this option been available last weekend I would have done it rather that the 2 lap.
i think the 40mm gravel fireroad broke a few people last Sunday..this years Djouce race has no savage climbs ..though I am not a good judge of that .
The Foxglove climb is not in it but theres a couple of short but tough singletrack climbs.
There will be loads of fast singletrack and a couple of tricky descents.
I've designed the course to be fast and deadly..
I think you'll want to do 2 laps..
