Tuesday 23rd June -Glenmalure 6.30

Due to promise of good weather..
its Lugnaquilla time - so 6.30 at the head of Glenmalure Valley..
This is an extremely serious spin.
Only for savages of the highest order.
Big bikes are really essential for this one and the ability to keep up the number 1 requirement.
If you have even a doubt that you can keep up..don't come.

If other people promise to bring their "big bikes" I'll bring the Marin... not much point trying to keep up with savages on their carbon XTCs on that spin.

Bring deet or equivalent for the valley afterwards. And food, plenty of food.

really looking forward to "keeping up my number 1", whatever that entails...

PS: what do we need the food for Basil?

yes we are all bringing 6" of bike..the descent down to the switchbacks will require it !!
we'll be going up table then hanging a left..but descending towards Clohernaghanaga

This is the Daddy of Mountains outside of Kerry..if you have the legs then lets see you there..
it takes about 1 hour from Dublin to get to the head of the Valley ..

ok so far, me ,Alfie , some lad called Damo, Fergal and Alan A..wheres the rest of you slackers ? look at the sunshine..i had to use up my virgin reserve to get this weather..you can do 3 rock and Djouce anytime..this might be the only time we can do Lug and not die !!

Don't be fooled by "do Lug and not Die" You will die if not on the spin a day or two after trust me!!!

well i'm banjoed after that..what a spin..
definitely the best descent in Ireland..if not The British isles..better than Snowdon by miles, but by jaysus what a climb to the top..and we probably got to do it the only time it will be dry this year !!
I can't even describe the trail off Clohernagh..natural berms and drops and mad steep **** with cliff all over the shop..
Imagine Camaderry but 10 times more and harder !!
I'm buzzing off me head !!
I may have to start a new club just for really Hardcore riders !!

Where we did some Tourist poses with Lug in the background...way in the background !!

then after much gasping and some bikepushing..though Damo never relented..and eventually we reached Percys Table

then we had a party at the top

and theres Mnt leinster

then we got a snap of Mr Hokkaido nakamoria from Tokyo

then we had the craic because Damo couldn't operate Alans phone camera

I can't remember the last spin when I struggled to get out of the car my legs were so yo-yo'ed from that relentless open mountain climbing, sheeee-it we must have been climbing for 2 hours solid
but that descent......
I thought that kind of madness only existed on DVDs and in far flung reaches of the earth, unbelievable, that cliff edge 6 inches from the front wheel put the plops up me for sure but there was so much going on in front that I wasn't long forgetting about it, then those mental speed switchbacks to finish off with all the killer rocks on the fastest bits...woooohhh......was it all a dream???........like freakin' wow man...

it wasn't dream ...jaysus the switchbacks were sketchy as fook...high speed grass and then piles of pointy rocks...i kept thinking " too old for this !!too old for this !!too old for this !!!" at the same time thinking , as soon as i get a rest i'm going back up there !!
