Need help..

yes I am new to the forum so bear with me ok?

Honestly I'm not exactly up to date on mtb's so your help is needed.

I have always been into it but never had the means(nor the money) to get into MBTing, now I do....Well sort of anyway.

The low down basically is that I work in a bike shop and we are starting to stock nice mtbs which means a discount is in order for me if I can order them in, we do Dimondback, Felt and Raleigh.

I am a big guy(14st ish) and about 6'2" so for 3rock etc the question is hardtail or sus?
I have been advised for both. If I was to buy new I could maybe buy (very)entry level full sus at most.
Or I could go for second hand for a higher spec for cheaper but increased risk.

So your general input would be greatly appreciated please.

go for the hardtail, better value for money, and you'd learn bike control skills faster on a hardtail
as you said - you can only get an entry level full-suss - and it would be heavy and have cheap components that would not last many runs down 3 rock

First mtb - hardtail. No question.

Any chance that your employer would avail of the government bike-to-work scheme? You could get the bike tax-free in addition to your employee discount.

Ha ha! That sounds the biz, my own booth, I'll be just like Colin Farrell. I WAS half asleep too, my youngest daughter decided that screaming all night would be a right jape, I was thinking crazy, bizarre, distorted thoughts at one point, like running my tyres at 45psi.

My employer does bike to work but for reasons that shant be told I wont be availing of it.

Ok so my next dilemma is new ok stuff or second hand higher level?

I was looking at a bike that we currently have in work, its actually affordable for me.

Its a dimondback, im not great on details but it has suntour xtc lockout forks, quad brakes(I think) mountain king 2.2 tyres....Uhhh..The new type bb..(cant think of name)...Truative cranks I think... I will get more details..

What I meant by entry level is actual full sus, not ****ty ride around the streets full sus.
I was looking at like the 1100 new mark as entry level.

What do y'all think of this?

for a grand, or find another 300 and go for the 7.0

Nice bike but a bit out of range, I was sorta stretching for what I said, which I could get for 750-800ish.
