Hi all
when it comes to jumping i turn into a total spa,:8)
give me any technical descent and i'm game for it.
but for some stupid reason,i freak out on largish jumps,
anything over a foot.
I am looking for anyone to help me maybe do a jump
session, maybe this has been done before, but i would love to have
a technical hour or so,with a few others who feel the same way.
So if we could get some heads together and had some willing person
who can teach us how to do it I would be chuffed.:)
or even to tag along on a dh session maybe to pick up some pointers.
Maybe i just need a shrink to say.
"you will be fine,it will not hurt, you are made of steel"8)
cheers in advance
Terry
your first thing is finding properly made jumps
from what I hear (never been there) St Annes park is a good place to learn, as you can progressively move from small to bigger jumps
Mark T or mr Fairy would be able to let you know the story on that place
I find jumping scares the daylights out of me too. I've never hit the Rock of Loneliness. I steadfastly refused the "huck to f^ck" at the Nationals, though I did make weak, half hearted efforts at the ski jump after it. St Annes is scary, not just the jumps but the natives too. They drink Dutch Gold exclusively, if they ever found out I prefer Harp they'd kick the bollix out of me.
As the man says, talk to the lads that can jump - Mark, Sean, Al, Bruce...
BTW how did you manage that over-the-bars last night?!
had the forks locked out on the climb forgot to undo them, hit something and wham.
or else i'm just getting ****er,
had a crap race after that but nothing to do with it.
was that you behind me?
so next question is who is mark, sean etc as everyone here has about 69 names
and i have'nt a clue who is who
Fergal is dethtshed go figure! took about 5 weeks just to work that one out.
thankfully Richie is just richie
now who the f..k are you Basil?
hey..basil is the gaylord with the glasses and the wavy fringe !! don't mind them Sean and Al lads..I'll teach you to jump..them lads will only get you killed..look at Sean fer fecks sake he'll be in a Zimmer frame before me !! trust me..i'll show you the safe and time honoured way of learning to jump..you'll be grand.
i don't do big jumps either... if I see them coming for too long like the road gap at the nationals I start to brake & stall like a horse
try cloon, that's where I practised initially. there are loads of little jumps on both tracks. U can just go and practise one & then move on to a slightly higher one. one or two of them are even rollable so that you can just start off rolling & then jump of a bit more.
I found that quite useful.
but I'm no expert, so someone with a lot of air-miles would be better to give you advice
ok in all seriousness..
Saturdays will be less savage and more freeridery now so we'll be going back to school with the old techniques.
Theres jumps spots all over the place and we'll have you flying in no time..
Richie
Hi Terry - John here - yup blessed with only two names like the average Irish adult, John Harrington - so the Harri is an abreviation of my second name. So growing up you can imagine . . . anyway- back to jumping, I think I'll take Mr R. Byrne up on the offer of: 'You'll jump by the end of this or I'll remove you & any memory of you from this planet' for 50 fishes. I believe that by pure coercian & fear I shall be a jumping-bean.
But like you Terry I could do with a lesson, I've made a mess of some basic jumps before & I have the broken helmet to prove it (well I had, I put it in the bin with other broken things).
Yeah I'm the gaylord with the wavy hair that was following you round the forest last night. Also go by the names of Pooka MacPhellimey and Credit Card Boy.
Jumping is over-rated anyway. Mountain running - now there's a REAL sport.
