Oh the relief!

I just got some Sunday gorse out from UNDER my fingernail with the old Swiss army knife, jesus that was getting sore!
when I was in Nam ( The Leb) there was very little to do except do courses and read , drink, chase Arab women( a lottery) fight drunk arabs and play poker with the Ethiopians for ganja ( they loved the old Tayto Cheese and Onion crisps) and rip the piss out of the Norwegians ( they were very serious)
But I did a survival course, the only feckin thing I can remember and I've never used it was, if you have a thorn stuck in your skin and it won't come out. Fill one of the empty miniature whiskey bottle( what the feck are they called Naggins??) with boiling water, empty it out and clamp the bottle immediately over the thorn and as the air inside the bottle cools it sucks the thorn out.
I've never had the opportunity to try it..I just remembered it..
the whole episode was a good 30 years ago now and I may have imagined the whole thing..
What kind of survival course allows for glass whiskey bottles and boiling water?! Is this for when you get stranded at the local Centra? The Swiss army knife is you only man, remember that guy in Arizona who''s arm was crushed under a big rock, he was stuck there for days before he hacked of his own arm with the saw tool!
Do the Swiss army hold them like guns? they must look stupid on parade.

LEFT....,LEFT......,LEFT,RIGHT,LEFT...... TWEEZERS OUT.....
Easy Stu, mock the Swiss at you peril, they might use there chocolate bombs on you, or blow your tyres with their Toblerone stingers, of lock you in a room full of Cuckoo clocks.
oOoh Yeah now i see.... When i lived in the wicklow hills i witnessed a few of the army Ranger exercise bivouacs and always wondered what the piles of beer cans were doing mixed in with the spent star shells, it must have been a variation on the theme. though I wonder why they were so worried about splinters after all that Carlsberg...
