Does any biker out there have any idea about the progress of the Downhill track in Hollywood, Co.Wicklow? What is going on? Wasn't it constructed 18 mths ago yet there's still a big closed gate with chains across the potentially brilliant track? Please update me or let me know how we can help.

Originally some gob****es on DH bikes riding the track before it was ready abused some locals up there.
The Locals are not happy about it being built and have objected to it.
So because of ****wits and red tape its opening is postponed.

The red tape is the full length of the track considering how long this is going on. The track appears to be complete or very near. I walked it a long time ago. Someone in the council should get the finger out, please. This country needs a track like this one. This county along with every county needs one. Thanks for the update.
Unfortunately the getting the finger out involves the planning department of Wicklow County Council - notoriously slow, difficult and obstructive people.
The track itself never needed planning permission, what became clear as the project progressed was that anything which will increase traffic flow in the area does need planning permission. The locals' problem is with traffic etc on the very narrow access lane, nothing to do with the track.

Hopefully the facility will be allowed to reach completion in due course. There is a process in place and patience is needed.
Meanwhile feel free to find another venue and build a deadly track, this is what the scene really needs at the moment. We wwn't get far sitting on our holes waiting for someone else to build tracks for us.

Have a place in mind, 200m drop over 2km. Fireroad nearly to the top but not quite (like The Blast). It's even near the N11. Is the gradient too crap? I think it'll make a good 'local' track anyway.

I've a royal pain in my arse with these people who think that nothings been done around the Country for Mountainbiking, when thats all some of us have been doing for 2 decades.
Usually the same flutes who are too cool to join Clubs and get involved, and who think all of us who have been involved in Clubs and the Commission have been doing is waiting for them to come along and give us ideas and tell us what to do.

very, very few of the members of this Club, other clubs and even the members of this Forum are 15 years of age.
Most are in their 30's. Some of us are in their 40's and several are in their 50's,we are all here to ride and dig and organise events, so that not just our Club members but other Clubs get to enjoy the Sport as much as the rest of us.
If you want to see facilities develop and trails built , then get involved,join a Club, the more Clubs and events that are ran the hgher the profile of the sport. The better for everybody,except for Ballinastoe and the other few official trails, all the other trails are built by hand by passionate and dedicated people.
You have absolutely no idea the barriers put up against us over the years when we want to run an event or even ride our bikes.

The amount of jumping through hoops and begging we have had to do to run events in Ireland since it all began in the late 80's, its a wonder some of us are still doing it.
I'd love to be able to ride new trails, I can count on one hand the amount of people who regularly build new stuff.
The country doesn't need Sean to give up his free time and wander around Wicklow and try and convince people we should have a National Dh center, what it needs is people to get off their arses and join and form Clubs, run events and spread the word.
Lobby the TDs and Councils for Venues and raise the publics awareness of what we do,

very, very few of the members of this Club, other clubs and even the members of this Forum are 15 years of age.
Most are in their 30's. Some of us are in their 40's and several are in their 50's,we are all here to ride and dig and organise events, so that not just our Club members but other Clubs get to enjoy the Sport as much as the rest of us.
If you want to see facilities develop and trails built , then get involved,join a Club, the more Clubs and events that are ran the hgher the profile of the sport. The better for everybody,except for Ballinastoe and the other few official trails, all the other trails are built by hand by passionate and dedicated people.
You have absolutely no idea the barriers put up against us over the years when we want to run an event or even ride our bikes.
people coming in to the sport now, think that all the trails built ,all the events ran happenend by accident.
And are easy to do.
The amount of jumping through hoops and begging we have had to do to run events in Ireland since it all began in the late 80's, its a wonder some of us are still doing it.
I'd love to be able to ride new trails, I can count on one hand the amount of people who regularly build new stuff.
The country doesn't need Sean to give up his free time and wander around Wicklow and try and convince people we should have a National Dh center, what it needs is people to get off their arses and join and form Clubs, run events and spread the word.
Lobby the TDs and Councils for Venues and raise the publics awareness of what we do,

I don't know who you are and I don't care, I'll disrespect whoever I feel is disrespecting the hardworking people behind the scenes. I've no control over the Asterisks, but if you know who I am, you'll know that I'll say exactly the same things in the flesh as I'll say on the forums.
Does any biker out there have any idea about the progress of the Downhill track in Hollywood, Co.Wicklow? What is going on? Wasn't it constructed 18 mths ago yet there's still a big closed gate with chains across the potentially brilliant track? Please update me or let me know how we can help.

The red tape is the full length of the track considering how long this is going on. The track appears to be complete or very near. I walked it a long time ago. Someone in the council should get the finger out, please. This country needs a track like this one. This county along with every county needs one. Thanks for the update.
Unfortunately the getting the finger out involves the planning department of Wicklow County Council - notoriously slow, difficult and obstructive people.
The track itself never needed planning permission, what became clear as the project progressed was that anything which will increase traffic flow in the area does need planning permission. The locals' problem is with traffic etc on the very narrow access lane, nothing to do with the track.
Idiots with bikes giving grief to a local didn't help of course.
Hopefully the facility will be allowed to reach completion in due course. There is a process in place and patience is needed.
Meanwhile feel free to find another venue and build a deadly track, this is what the scene really needs at the moment. We wwn't get far sitting on our holes waiting for someone else to build tracks for us.

Have a place in mind, 200m drop over 2km. Fireroad nearly to the top but not quite (like The Blast). It's even near the N11. Is the gradient too crap? I think it'll make a good 'local' track anyway.

Woodwork is a another thing they will remove.

Pulling down the old stone walls is another , and parking on the narrow roads upsetting the locals, ( Barnaslingan)

Well said Richie... Sean has put his heart & soul into that project. I was up there with him one day while he was knocking on locals doors, trying to diffuse a situation caused by some rouge downhillers who decided they had the right to piss every one off.

I've a royal pain in my arse with these people who think that nothings been done around the Country for Mountainbiking, when thats all some of us have been doing for 2 decades.
Usually the same flutes who are too cool to join Clubs and get involved, and who think all of us who have been involved in Clubs and the Commission have been doing is waiting for them to come along and give us ideas and tell us what to do.
