There is a new skate/bike park beside my house and there is also a dirt jump track in the park in Raheny. What bike, BMX or Dirt Jumper would be best suited to both parks? What is the difference with single speed dirt jumpers and dirt jumpers with 6/9 speed????
Skateparks are great craic on a BMX, but not sure about dirt jumps. No front sus, and smaller wheels are less forgiving. What's your ability on dirtjumps? There have been a few broken bones on this website as a result of them. As for the singlespeed thing, there is less to go wrong, and they are cheaper. Gears give you more choice with gearing, obviously.
Why not get both? I picked up a specialized BMX on IRISHDH for €80. I see giant stp's there all the time for a couple of hundred.....
bmx for the skate park and the trails. I ride a hardtail but only because im too scared to go to a bmx and i think they feel funny as i've been riding mtbs for as long as i can remember.
I have a mountain bike which I use regularly. I did have a BMX a few years ago and can handle small jumps - nothing crazy, but I thought with the new skate park beside me and the work that has been done in St Annes, I might pick up a second hand bike for messing around on. Then I noticed that some people are on Dirt Jumpers (single speed and multi speed) and others on BMX's ( small ones and long ones). And it leaves me wondering which one do I go for??? Then there is the size issue. I am just under 6ft. What size do you go for? I dont have money for both so I need to get the right one.
