Can we talk about these now? I think we can now that the nation is submerged in the stuff.
So what's good these days? My Ignitors are way out of their depth, the Bulldog is better, Swampthings are good but a bit too heavy, High Rollers are clogarama.
I want something not too heavy, with aggressive knobblies but one that rolls OK. Tubeless of course.
Michellin XCR Mud UST - I used them for all of last winter and I have them back on again.
Pros - They give amazing grip and are reasonably fast rolling - wear really well too. On sale on CRC at the moment!
Cons - There are some questions about the strength of the side-walls which may affect riders who are more aggressive than I am (just about everybody!) but I've had no problems! Two-tone colour (could be a pro depending on your point of view!)
I used Nobby Nics and found them pretty good but the sidewalls were a bit on the soft side I also use Conti Mountain king 2.1 ust fast rolling, nobblies well spaced but dont last that long!!! The Mountain kings are going on my XC bike today.
I found the Nobby Nic's to be bad in wet conditions, they seem ok in grassy-soil like conditions but throw in roots and wet rocks and you can forget about grip, you have to run them at real low pressures but then the walls are so light that they tend to buckle in turns, on the good side they are light and do shed mud very well but i would go for the Torro's instead.
I got theses Geax tyres off Al and they rock ..loads of knobblies and loads of space inbetween..just coat the gaps wbetween the knoobles in lard and away you go..
Don..you really needa Viking ride in a skip..too much sphincter opera has you bent!!
Sorry Gaz have dissagree with you on that one. I only used them in wet conditions in the NPS and the club course all year and found them way better than the Bulldogs now torros as I was using Racing Ralphs in Dry conditions which are useless in the wet. Everyone to thier own I suppose, Inanyways Donafrickentyregoober you are the tyre man whats the story!!!!!!!
No thats fine Darragh they probably would work ok for that, but i think going around the club course on them is a bit different than hairing down the side of a montain (like Camenderry)on a 5/6 inch bike, thats when they seem to get a bit wayward.
Just leave the same tyres on that you have been using and ride your bike. So what if you slip around a bit it will only make your bike handling skills better
