Don's not going to be happy about the amount of times you have used that word starts with G ends in Y and has an A in the middle!!! He might have been one in fairness he drives a "Brown Deauville"
I'm not defending the 29er here by any means but it is a well known fact that the 29inch wheel rolls much better over our chosen terrain, so in theory it should do very well in DH, and it's probably the way forward for susspension development, i.e more travel.
yeah they would roll well but for downhill they'd be crap for accelleration, probably wouldn't corner well (dont know why) and wouldn't they have less travel? Bigger wheel means there's less room for movement and all that?!
Ohh and of course the extra weight with longer spokes and more material in the rim...
...all the weight of the badgers and field mice who'd come to nest in the monster tyres, and the clatter of all nuts that the squirrels would store in the tyres too...
hello..the 26" wheel is a mountainbike wheel..end of story anything below is a BMX and anything above is cyclocross simples..
I hope the UCI get they're act together and ban them. Yes I understand that yes they will roll better etc, but, MTB's with 29" wheels look crap

I hate 29'ers, hairy faces, tubes and 1 gear type people, HOWEVER, makes a lot more sense on DH than XC, defo if a fast course.

They're class yokes, have them on the DH bike and the Candy C's on the XC yoke, so feck yis! they're class. 29ers are gay though, in a really gay way.

Why can't wheels be proportional to the bike size? Silvia might be better suited to a 24" yet bigfootbright might use a 29"

clips are for benders on a dh bike greg hes hittin some pretty big jumps in that vid and the wheels dont brake or explode i wouldent knock it on a dh bike it makes sense
