There is a group of us toying with the idea of heading to Scotland to ride one of the 7stains trail centers. As there is only so much reading and youtubing you can do to research. I was wondering has any one been to any of them and what one you would recommend ?
We all have 6inch all mountain bikes and like a bit of a challenge.
Ae was disappointing.
Kirroughtree was very good - ideal to do on the way back to the ferry if you have time.
Innerleithen & Glentress were both excellent, I'd highly recommend them.
Haven't been to the others, Mabie is meant to be a bit dull and the other ones moreso.
Glentress seems to be the top flagship for them its got the free ride park too witch is a bonus. Were thinking of going for 3 days so we could possibly fit 2 in maybe more.
Just one other question or two would you do all the trails in Innerleithen & Glentress in 2 days ?
could you do the down hill runs in Innerleithen on a 6 incher AM bike ?
Yes and yes. DH bike would be more fun at Innerleithen, but you'll get down fine on a 6 ". Black loop at Innerleithen is worth it, especially technical rocky section 3/4 of the way round, plus the finish is down the second half of one of the DH runs and is super-sweet. The black XC loop in Glentress is a lot of riding but for me was the highlight of the trip, absolutely brilliant if you've got the legs for it. We did red in the morning, incl couple of goes at Spooky Wood, then black in afternoon, pheasantly plucked afterwards but worth it. Did Innerleithen black the following morning, incl playing on DH run for a bit, then over to Glentress FR park in the afternoon. If you're fit it's manageable, that was June though, so keep it realistic for the time of year and the conditions.

It depends on your fitness and how drunk you get at night
If I had an easy drinking weekend and I was you i'd do as follows
Day 1 Glentress Black don't go down to the start & do Glentress Red
Stop at the Glentress hotel at the trail head http://home.btconnect.com/glentress/
Day 2 Innerleithan
Day 3 on the way home do Kiroughtress saving the best til last
I was over in Glentress a couple of months ago for a freeride event (http://www.epicmtb.com/forums/showth...adies+freeride), and I can't praise the freeride park highly enough. Great fun riding the tabletops and drops, and the double wallrides are good craic too. I stayed in the Glentress Hotel, and the staff were great (fixed my (car) puncture on a wet Sunday morning for free :) ).

With it coming into the season to be jolly i might book it now for spring-ish so we can make the most of the longer evenings too

I guess so but I'm a xc wimp who gets nose bleeds on any drops over 12". It all depends on your skills but people do it on tough hardtails.
I dont drink but my heart holds me back as im on tablets that stop adrenaline but i still get it done in the end. Im capable of doing the Ballyhura 50k loop in cork. So i think i should be fine slow and steady and all that.

Excellent now that's service.
Its great to have accommodation so close to the trail.
Excuse my ignorance but how far away are Glentress and Innerleithen from each other ?
