The Mountainbiking Association of Dublin are celebrating our 20th Anniversary with something a bit special. It all started in 1989 with a spin from the Yellow House, and over the years the Sunday Spin has become famous in mountainbiking circles. At one time or another most mountainbikers have been on a M.A.D. Sunday spin, many of whom went on to form clubs of their own. And so to mark our 20th year we are going back to where it all began.
On Sunday January 3rd 2010 we are having a spin out to Djouce/Ballinastoe via Fairy Castle, Prince Willies and Crone. Meeting at the Yellow House pub in Rathfarnham at 9-45am, leaving at 10-00am. All are welcome, but you must be self sufficient, and a member of a club.
Please note, there is no car parking at the Yellow house so please park sensibly elsewhere. Also, this is not a marshalled event, so you will need to be familiar with the route and of reasonable fitness. More info to follow in the coming weeks.

hold on a minute..when MAD started nobody had a car..Peter used to cycle all the way from Drumcondra to the Yellow House, Joe used to cycle from Palmerstown,I cycled from Dun laoghaire , as did Gerry and loads of others..Sean used to cycle from Donnycarney , cop on to yourselves ,we used to do that spin and cycle home!!
Hey fellow Ginger..is it a coincidence that I was the first Chairman of MAD and you are the Chairman 20 years later !! thats the **** i'm talking about!
FYI,
The first MAD spins were going from april 1988, But the club was started and officially named on easter sunday 1989 in powerscourt waterfall at the shop. Peter Purfield was the secretary, Conor Byrne was the Chairman, And Ger Ring the Tressurer.
It just grew and grew with 45+ member in 1991, Great to see it still going strong and still from the Yellow house pub in rathfarnham.
Looking forward to this, I will see yiz there,

Probably best to allow Conor to answer that but there will be either be a shorter route identified or drop-out points along the way so that everyone gets a spin to suit them, there will probably end-up being 3 groups of riders; super-savages, intermediate and beginner-type paces,
but we'll all be heading off together

You should run it like the old spins, piss up to Kilmasougue, loose 30% of the people, then go from there at a sensible pace, until you get to Enniskerry on the road, then race all the way back to the shop, and let the weak drop like flies.
Drumcondra? lightweight!
I used to cycle from Bray to the Yellow house to start the days spins!
(I was their accounts person in 1992ish)
We should do the spin on old bikes without discs, suspension or spds..
