advice for newbie

hi all.
i was recently in wales and visited llandegla? where i was introduced to mountainbiking. loved it. ordered a bike. its comming soon.
problem now is what do i do next. any advice from you experienced bikers on the site would be most welcome.

Mountainbiking is overun with " Experts"...so be wary.
You will be driven mental by choice and distracted by opinions, but unless you've actually seen the " Experts " in the Flesh or even photo or Video evidence of them on Mountainbikes, then ignore them .
Then get the bike, go on a Club Beginner spin..We run them occasionally but MAD, run them regularly

Keep an eye on upcoming events and go and watch one or two.
You run the risk on this forum of having the piss taken out of you for fun..if you can hack that then you will be welcome in EPIC..
When we run a Beginner spin, regardless of what other Club you may have tried out, go on it.
We are not like anybody else.

i have been involved in other "adventure sports" and still am so i am used to the "all the gear and no idear" brigade.
i will take all i hear with a pinch of salt, nonetheless all advice is gratefully received
