With great regret I have to announce that we will be cancelling the National Cyclocross Championships this coming weekend. A provisional date has been set as the 31st of January in the same location, however this is provisional to the park letting us use their facilities again. A second date of the 7th of February is also being looked at as a fall back.
As we all know weather conditions have deteriorated and it has made it near impossible for public and private transport for many of us throughout the country and the county. Many riders have been in personal contact letting me know that they would not be able to travel to the race due to the weather.
A decision made between the organisation committee, Off Road Commission, and College of Commissars to postpone the event today in light of conditions and a similar decision in the UK, and as we want to promote this race to all CI riders we needed to make this decision.
However the clouds do have a silver lining. If anyone is interested in riding the course in what can only be described as pristine cyclocross conditions, I would invite you to join me at the sign on area at 11am on Sunday morning. Plan is to do a few laps, then retire for coffee and cake. No licence required. Iâll be wearing DCU kit and looking eager.
Thats a pity Greg, but you are stone mad. you should run it on Sunday. The roads are grand.
You've made a huge effort to hype it up, its even gotten savage coverage on this site.
The roads are not that bad.
If you change ot to the 31st loads of people won't be there as we are running a Winter league DH race, that will take a good 10 riders out of your race.
If they were all as dedicated as you they'd turn up.
I have to agree with Giller its a National Champs, come the previous day from outside Dublin if you have to.
You know as well as I do that it just won't be the same postponed.
So what if you get 10 or 20 riders, they'll be the ones that really want it.
I would love to see Joe McCall win the CX Nationals..if he wins it I will take it up !
Don't be a pussy, all the best races are held in extreme weather conditions.

I've been out on my bike everyday since Christmas, its supposed to be hard, otherwise everybody would be doing it.

I'll be there! Went for a spin this morning around St Annes, it was great - and my first time out in 10 days. Roads in the area are abs fine. Where's the meeting point? - Greg.
Thankfully the snow and ice has gone and we can ride once again. Due to many factors we have only been able to 100% clarify the date for the race as of today.
The 7th of February will be the rescheduled date so as not to clash with the DH race on the 31st of Jan, and the Raheny 5km road race.
