Why do trucks slide back down icey hills?

I can see that they are doing it all over the place, but I was trying to figure out why? I would have thougt since they have more weight and more big wide tyres that the feckers would have more grip. But obiously not?

Do the lads who drive them know that can't go up icy hills?, because I have seen a few stuck in places that could have been easily avoided.
i think its because they have so many gears and even in the dry if you dont get it right on a steep hill your in trouble according to a mate of mine who drives them!!
Wide tyres + snow = less grip. What you need are realtively narrow wheels that cut through snow and are more likely to get grip. Also, most trucks are RWD and have engine in the front so the rear of the truck is lighter and gets less grip making it difficult to go up-hill
I know a guy that owns a trucking company......its because when the truck drives on the ice the rear wheels crush the ice/snow (heavier at rear because of load in truck) causing the truck to tilt backwards and thus causing it to slide backwards...simple physics

Yeh but gravity is weaker at the top of the hill and stronger at the bottom so it doesn't explain why it slides from the top down and not the bottom up.
well if thats true then you should be able to piss over your head, go on try it and see what happens!

Your meant to do it while hanging upsidedown! unless ur half down the hill.
The progressively higher you get = less gravity, ie the closer you get to space (zero gravity) the less gravity there is
Doesn't that mean leaving the carpark in Glendo is harder than cresting Tonligee? Which would be different to my experience of that sh1t heap.
