DH pedals and chain thingy

ok, going to stick flats on my specialized pitch, cause when i was lashing down cloon wood and unclipped, there was no way i'd get it clipped back in until the end.

Tho, i'm concerned about coming detached from flats when jumping etc (very use to SPDs and being attached!) so wondering if theres any decent spd's with a cage therefore grip out there as all that i can find look like road pedals.

Was looking at these, any thoughts?

Also any suggestions on runners with good soles, otherwise i'll probably just end up with pair i think look cool, but have crap soles

Lastly, I've spotted bikes with chain tension things on them, to stop the chain coming off. Do you need to go to a single gear on the front/back to fit these?

to be honest its much better to have an spd on your lead foot..and a flat on your goofy one..
as for chain devices..just put it into the Big ring all the time !!

Get a set of DMR V8 or V12 pedals and some 5 ten shoes, great combo for DH

Simo. It's not peddles its worse than that. You really want a DH bike your just in denial.

Don't mind them eeejits Simo..put pedals on one of your kayaks and away you go..

thanks Gazpw, i did look at the DX pedals, but figured if i clip out and if end up not clipping back in properly - false sense of security as the grip is a bit poxy... the only thing with those DMR V8 pedals are that they aren't sealed, thats why i picked the others?

And yes, i really really want a DH bike, but apart from stealing one, can't see it happing. btw who has the best DH bike and where do you live? your keys and alarm code would be handy too

And Richie, lack of pedals have never stopped my kayak flying down a hill, tho the odd ditch has...

Simo i've had my V8's on for just about the best part of a year now and not once had a problem, just pop a bit of grease in the grease port every 3 or 4 weeks and they will last for ages, you can even strip them down and rebearing them if you want. Great peddals.

Simo have you tried borrowing flats and seeing if you like them? I can bring some to Cloon if you want. I'm so used to clips I can't adjust to flats at all, they seem to make me even worse at DH. The occasional need to clip back in is outweighed by the benefits of SPDs (for me at least).

As far as shoes are concerned, most of the lads on flats use Five Tens. They are supposed to grip the pins on the pedals much better than runners do. But before you buy any, just ask Byrner how much fun they are to wear when pushing your bike up a slippy hill.
