i'm looking to buy somenew tyres

whats the best alround tyre size for mtb

A bit more info on the general type of riding you do would help folk narrow it down for you. What bike ? hardtail xc, 6" freeride, DH ?

Just a warning Mark ...
You are going to be driven mental by tyre choices..
everybody has different opinions on different tyres..but its all down to pressure and what you can get away with.
If you are in Arklow, go and see Brian Conway in Wicklow Cycles and see what he has, or go to The Bike Rack in Cabinteely which is just off the N11.
you'll have to learn yourself whats good and whats not.
Nobody can tell you whats the best tyre..some tyres are better for mud., some for hardpack,but an experienced capable rider can get away with any old tyre in any condition.
No tyre is going to make you a better rider, practice and coaching will.
i never mer a tyre i didn't love once i wore it in and got used to it..and at this stage, thats a lot of tyres.

Richies right, if you are starting off then you won't notice much difference between tyres. If most of your riding in in Ballinastoe then you don't need anything too aggressive (knobbly) either, in fact I have fantasies about Kenda small block 8's up there, but that's just me. What you will notice when you get there is the difference between tubed and tubeless, and there you will see significant differences between what tyres and more importantly, pressures can do. For now get yourself some Ignitors and you can ride what's left of our winter and enjoy them into the summer.
