Due to the ongoing problems with licences and a few other things, namely High Performance.
I asked Sean, who used to be a Board Member for some sort of reasoning behind joining, ctually I asked the Current President of CI why should we be part of it. His reply ws dismal so Sean got me the answers himself.

Now bear in mind that , more than once in the past I was involved in an attempt to find a different , more MTBcentric organisation to be our Governing body . ( that probably surprises most of you!!)
Anyway..
Cycling Ireland is our Governing Body and thats it.
We either live with it or we change it.
Now in fairness to people like Sean and Fergal, it has radically changed over the last couple of years and we get a lot more out of it than we used to, it has been particularly important in the whole dealings with Coillte.
But heres some simple reasons why you should join a club and get a Membership with CI.
Richie

In terms of the benefits of setting up a CI club:

* Reduced licence fees if you are in a club.
* The club itself is covered under the insurance so if the club is involved in activities, as long as they are within the rules the club should be covered.
* Clubs are allowed to run Cycling Ireland Events, so if you want to run anything you have to have one, you are part of the UCI etc.
* Clubs have a voice / voting at AGM's of commissions, provinces/ can nominate to commissions / boards etc. In other words have a say in the world of Cycling, so if you want to try and make the world of cycling a better place you can do it better within a club.
* You have the support of the national federation / commissions and provinces, should you need it.

Benefits of being a CI member:

* Personal accident and third party insurance.
* Cheaper day licences if you don't have a race licence.
* If you have a race licence you can race.
* Eligibility for national titles, teams etc.
* The more licences a club has the more voting rights it has.
* You will be eligible to go on Commissar courses, coaching courses etc.
* We are also trying to negotiate with Coillte for access to certain places, licence to build trails etc. When we do this it will most likely be within the membership structures of Cycling Ireland.
* CI insurance will also cover manual trail building.
* An element of licence fees goes towards that commissions budgets, so benefits the coordination or NPS's, pays for prizes, subsidises training courses, funds development programmes, etc.
