Hello, today I ran a Coaching session and 2 lads turned up...1 ex pro elite Savage looking for The Richie Byrne Magic to reignite the Glory of his youth when he was in fact Irelands Number 1 Mountainbiker..
He competed in the World Champs against none other than John Tomac..to my knowledge the only Irish Rider ever to do so.
The other was one of the Blue Light Babies, recent convert to Mountainbiking and just back in from overseas racing in Cork where he managed a fine 5th Place in The Ballyhoura Round of the EPICMAD World Cup..wher he managed to bea former Elite XC racer and MAsters World Champion DHer Sean the Happy Fairy Herlihy by a whole second.
Here he is at the start of The Richard Lynch Memorial Trail on Kilmashogue, he goes by the name of Geraghty , Huge 1 Geraghty
All of Dublin was out to see us on embark on this ferocious expedition financed by the recession and the Social Welfare.
Anyway off I went after having to endure the former Pro elite riders waffling on about me calming down after reaching the top of the first climb !! Anyone would think I was a one mountain wonder !
Here he is puking after i kicked him in the bollix for such spurious comments
so I abandoned Huge E Bigknob at Glencullen and myself and Tomacs Terror hit the big dirt climb to Curtlestown, sometimes together, sometimes waving at each other from a distance.
So we kept going and going and going and going till I finally stopped on the far side of Djouce to take a couple of pictures..

he took one of me for my Autobiography !
Here we go , I abandoned Rory at ROundwood and kept going to Laragh and heres a picture of my water bottle at 50k after i took my first drink of the day..
I got to Laragh, switched on the IPOD and hit the road home..
6.5 hours and 92k later..
The hardest part was freezing to death on the road from Laragh and bursting myself from Kilmac to Bray trying to stay warm !!
