3 of us did it last year and we're gonna do it again this year.
The event organisation was second to none.
however, personally I thought course could have been better. Mostly fireroad with a ridiculous hike-a-bike and bog which they claimed to be singletrack.
It 100% pedalling (aside from the hike) for about and hour of a lap.
They do say on the site they are working on it so fingers crossed it will be better.
but.... having said all that, it was well worth doing.
Byrner is just afraid you'll see what he turns into after midnight.
Laps... and you're probably right. It's more an endurance test than anything else. Not one for a pure MTBer, as you're just covering the same ground each time, but perfect for masochistic level endurance freaks.
I'd say I'm definitely the only person in Ireland to have both cycled a 24 hour MTB race solo, and run a 24 hour run... actually, given the number of 24 hour runners and how specialist they tend to be, I wouldn't be surprised if I was the only person on the planet to have done it!
i think the big problem with these things is that they label them MTB events. but you don't need real mtb skill ( the ability to descend at speed and tackle unrelenting singletrack) to participate.
Like the way XCO has become twisted in to a perverse form of Summer CX. This combined with the insidius rise of the 29'er and tyres with no thread. It seems to me that the sport is being drilled out through the back door and stuffed with all sorts of hyper mass market attraction differentials ! isms..
I'd say I'm definitely the only person in Ireland to have both cycled a 24 hour MTB race solo, and run a 24 hour run... actually, given the number of 24 hour runners and how specialist they tend to be, I wouldn't be surprised if I was the only person on the planet to have done it!

I hear a T-1000 terminator attempted one once but blew up, and Steve Austin did half a one and collapsed and had to go back on the operating table
Myself and two of the other newer gayer members (no names but one of them has blond curly locks and lives on a golf course and the other one STOPS MOTO(rcycles) for a living) were thinking about giving this a go!
We had visions of parking the camper beside the Start/Finish line and taking it in turns to sit on deck-chairs, sipping beer whilst encouraging our cycling team-mate!
Unfortunately it turned out that no campers are allowed, unless it's a VW micro-bus (something about being Environmentally Friendly), there's no mobile Latte Van and even worse there's no mobile phone signal for miles!
