Newbie onboard

Hi guys,

just to get intro's out of the way. 30/M/Cabinteely

I just bought my first MTB, an FS Kona King Kikapu cos a few friends want me to start doing some XC with them. My first day out was planned for Ballinastoe on Monday, but apparently thats a nogo area cos of the snow :(

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you could point me in the direction of some noobie advice. Is there a good source for learning about how to service your bike etc, what are the essentials to do after each ride etc. Also maybe some tips on riding etc. I just though of that after seeing some thread about 2 finger breaking... Is there a rule about how many fingers you should use?

Also, After I have had a few spins with my mates, I may look into joining a club if I get addicted, which knowing me, is pretty likely. What are the advantages to joining a club? I realise you guys are a club, but would you be most suited to someone like myself who is located in Cabinteely?

Thanks in advance for all your help :)

Darren
first of all Cabinteely is the birthplace of Mountainbiking as I was born there in the Early 60's.
There are many advantages to joining a club, the main one being you won't find the best trails without being in a Club as its clubs who build them.
Be wary of the techniques given out on this forum as this is a forum of messers and devils.
However we are the biggest and most successful MTB Club in Ireland, probably the World.
Nobody else does this ..

we will be running a beginners day in the near future but keep an eye out for beginners Coaching and Guiding from me, welcome to the mental world of Mountainbiking.
I would strongly urge you to join a club, with more people in Clubs the more advanced the sport becomes and the more voices we have to fight our battles and secure more places to ride.

"Flanders" wtf does that mean? If you mean out to the pub the answer is yes .... if you mean out on my bike - I'm going out now for a quick spin but I'm definately not going up to the Leadmines to ruin the trails up there!!!
