Had a stroll round the track this evening, it is brilliant, has everything. The lads have done a savage amount of work with the digging, hardcoring, carpentry... a year ago this place was a kip you wouldn't set foot in, now it's properly worthy of an NPS. Barely any mud at all and the weather between now and race time is meant to be really good. They even have a field for the parking/start/finish.
So as the man says - be there.
Besides, there can't be that many more years of the old fart doing commentary, so come and enjoy it while you can.
went out this morning and walked the course. Its in great nick. some great runs tight through trees on the down hill. Only one real kicker of a climb, like the second climb on the club course, and 2 gradual fire roads. Watch out for the loose horse appartly he lives there! Richard there is a map on the imbrc web site showing where it is.

To add a bit to the Google Maps info, Slade is dead easy to find, you take the N81 towards Blessington keep left at the turn to Saggart and straight up the hill. As the road flattens out you reach the Blue Gardenia Pub take the right just after this pub (itâs called McdDonaghs Lane). Directions to the car park are marked from here. Look out for blue arrows on a white background.
this may be a stupid question but is there any sort of registration before the race tomorrow. All i can see on the imbrc web site is the sign on closing at 11.30.....first race and all that mularkey. I've signed online already.

Bloody hell that was hard. What a day for it though. I'll be having nightmares about roots tonight. Myself and Micky were swopping places for most of it but he left me for dead on the last lap. Fair play.
A couple of years ago I'd have said XC racing was dying and I don't think I'd have been all that wrong. And a year ago I said that venue was beyond use. But today showed how good it can all be. A really well thought out course, that truly made the best of the place, a savage amount of work that went into the course and the various organisational aspects, well marshalled, a good if slopey field that lent great atmosphere to the whole day, marshmallows, almost poetic encouragement of riders from the legendary MC, minimal fire road, sweet singletrack, roots, roots and more roots (but they were good roots), a huge turnout, a pit crew (fair play to everyone who contributed to that, even the t-shirts were cool), finally that weather - whichever version of the Almighty the IMBRC boys have been praying to, He knows his stuff.
Well done to all the Epic racers, especially those who got podiums, lots of near misses too.
220 miles to Killarney might be a turn-off, now it seems appealing. Bring on the next one.
