Used up the last of a box of Hi Five ones a couple of weeks ago and am now using Powerbar. I find them way better. Only natural ingredients used in them and they have stuff in them to prevent cramp which really works.
Pink Grapefruit Bacardi Breezer in the water bottle does the trick. Looks, tastes and smells like a normal energy drink (i.e. cack) so no one will ever suspect.
Don, they are of no use to you , unless you are racing. And the PowerBar ones like Scrivo suggests are the only ones..i got some of them hi 5 of a certain Blaggard in the Bike rack..used two of them so far and they had no effect on me during two savage savage spins , i still wanted to eat the grass at the side of the road and a dead pigeon in the middle of the road in Shankill !!
I beg to differ Byrnsie, on a recent long spin I was in dire need of something, the heart was willing but energy reserves were at nil, and before you start bleeting on about how its 6 hour savage spins and not gels that I need, I'm working toward that!

its you lot that do the bleating about gels and tyre worries when all you can manage is an hour around Djouce when your wives and minxes are not looking !! and all you can manage then is xtc, Benchcut and GC !!
You don't need a gel..you need gender reassignment !!
I went from here to Djouce this morning, did my hour pf power and cycled back..felt a bit hungry on the way through the rocky valley , lashed out the hi 5 gel , pedalled like a demon down the N11..no effect whatsover still felt hungry when I got home but managed to knock 20 mins off my time from last thursday !!
and I have a big blister on my hand from the Burco yesterday and I have a hangover ..
But holy jeebus what a lovely morning !!
you need the ones with the caffeine when you are racing, the potassium will help stop cramping.I find the Power bars are the best but need some getting used to, the're slimy. They also recommend water with the power bar gels, the high 5 they say you don't need to take water with them. The apple power bar gels with caffeine are the ones i have used for the past few years. They make the hair stand up on the back of neck......and give you a good punch.
Get these ones Don- http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...x?ModelID=3871
The vanilla are deadly. I've a theory that I made up that the less of this stuff you take, the bigger the affect it has on you when you do take it. It might just be in my head but I OD on all that sh*t for races and it usually leaved my vibrating for a day or two.
âMarketing of these products is an international multimillion dollar business that preys on the desires of athletes to be the best, and when one item does not work or is discredited by research, another comes along to take its placeâ: American Dietetic Association
Jelly Babies have the highest energy per gram of any sweet and give you everything you need.
I popped into Wheelworx near Liffey Valley today, and noticed they had PowerBar Ride Shots for €2 each, which is less than CRC without buying in bulk (also got a discount for having a CI licence) :)

come on Luke what would an actual Nutritionist know about nutirition, can't you see these lads getting the results all over the place with their Gels !!
I've tried gels on many occasions and you can't beat a snickers or a handful of jelly babies when you get the knock..
I've never eaten a snickers outside of a spin !
good man Don. now make sure you let the Pit Boss know you'll be racing rnd 2 in Killarney !! he'll give you a few tips on what bottle is the easiest to get in and out of a bottle cage ..
