Maybe time for a quick recap on club race etiquette.
You are under no obligation to let people past, this is a race and if someone is fast they will nail you on the singletrack or on the fireroads where most of the passing takes place. If you are a good deal slower than the approaching pack and entering a section of singletrack you may be freaked out by having rabid hoards behind you, it may be in your interest to let them past but remember you don't have to, if they start screaming at you simply scream back!
Pushing, verbal abuse, whammying are all banning offences.
Try and finish. Finish the race with your bike and you will get points, a number of people finished races last year with the bike on their back.
Volunteer for timing. Everyone need to help with timing at some stage, you get points for this too. My advice is if you have a bad result, volunteer for timing the following week. (mawawwhhahahhhahahaha!)
Enjoy yourself. This is the biggest and best club race in the land, as such some people take it very, very seriously, others are out every week just to improve their times and enjoy the craic. Whoever you are respect your fellow racers and have the craic!
