Just thought I'd hop on here to help clarify the details of the race at Dunmore this Saturday. Firstly, great to see you have already started a debate on this message board. Hopefully there are other clubs talking about this event as well. Apologies for the information about the race not being easy to find. We have only launched the UlsterXC site this year and were trying to steer users in that direction. Note: The rest of the Ulster series is on that website as well.
As Dunmore was used last year for the champs and was well attended by riders from across the island I am surprised that memories have faded so quickly. Yes it is not a forest, therefore it is not like Lady Dixon Park (great venue that!!). I didn't go to Killarney so can't help in the comparison.
Dunmore is based on a farm with land that could only be used by sheep. It is full of short climbs, loose rocks, tricky drops, rocky outcrops, a dried up stream and then there is the big climb at the back of the course up the main peak of the "mountain". The words "Brutal" and "Killer" were used a lot last year.
We have added some new sections to the course helping to make it flow better in some places and to use new sections which will add something different we hope.
I wouldn't fancy trying this course on a cx bike, but don't let that stop any of you giving it a go. There is nothing in the rule books to stop you!!!
We had hoped that the smooth tones of Mr Bryne would have been on hand to add some commentary but even the big man deserves a break. Happy hols Ritchie!
