Vans

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone out there selling a van or know someone selling one? I’m looking for a van with a short or medium wheel base (like 9 feet long in the back) and a high roof (needs to be 6 feet high inside) for conversion to a camper. Something along the lines of a Ford Transit.

I have a small budget for it.

I have a transit already converted, goin cheap €28,000 what you think:)

I think that may be just a wee bit out of my price range!! I mean I have a SMALL budget like over10 times smaller!!

If I win the lotto I might give ya a shout although if I did I'd prob buy a house on the beach instead :)

Talk to daveK, he bought one recently for €200 and a packet of Tuc, or Ryvita, whatever it was it was crackers.

I know someone with a cheap transit thats already converted. I can put you in touch with him if you want

I have an LDV convoy minibus going cheap. Gazpw has first refusal, but you can have it if he doesn't want it....

Still want it Stu, will give you a ring towards the end of the week here mate

That's cheap, yeah thinking of 1000 max for the van then convert it myself. Need one with high roof tho so I can legally change it to a camper. I'll go look up DaveK. Cheers

Cheers Al. See how much it is, I want to spend as little as possible and my cheapest bet is buy a van and do the work myself but sure I'll take the details anyway. Cheers

If you're going to do it that way, do just enough to register it as a camper. Then make it nice afterwards. VRT to change status from van to camper is a swine. They valued Bananaman's ancient maggoty Transit at 4 grand and hit him for €600 VRT.

my understanding of it is is that vrt is only €50 if van is over 1.6mtr high or over 3 tons.

True for 3 tons but most vans aren't that heavy. Hard to get away with loading it up with lead and barrels of water these days too.

Not sure on the 1.6 m thing, I thought the only criterion to be a Cat C or whatever it's called was the weight.

it is actually 1.8mtr not 1.6mtr, got the info from a company vanderlust.com who convert vans, was thinking of doing much the same with a transit and they advised not a good vehicle as doesn't meet height requirement and have to pay vrt.

friend of mine somehow managed to get a vw transporter through on the over 3 ton rule - alot of lead in that going onto the weight bridge and the girl behind the counter didn't blink an eye when he went in to re register it !!

What I read was in order to convert useage type to campervan is inside must be 6 feet floor to ceiling (a high roof transit is just about heigh enough), it must have 2 ring cooker installed by professional and you need a cert to prove this, have a bed and a sink (not sure if it also needs a tap-can do the sink myself but a tap is just extra hassle)

Is the 50€ VRT not for getting a van from UK?

If you convert a van to a camper they charge VRT??? Robbing b****rds!!!! I'll try and see what's cheaper keeping it as a van and paying tax and doing DOE each year or converting it paying VRT and if they base VRT on value I will make sure that it looks like a smelly, stinking, rotten dump inside then do the real job on it afterwards.
