About 10 bikes stolen from locked bike shed in underground car park of our apartments last night including 2 of my own:
Giant Terrago Disc MTB grey & blue
Giant Defy 4 road bike white & black with Keo classic pedals

you fix the box to the wall (must be strong fixing so they can't steel the bikes WITH the alarm)
and put the thin wire around bikes.if they cut it or try to mess with the lock 120Decibel sound goes off. I'm sure they'd run away. of course there should be also some good standard lock cos this is just a wire.

whats the story with stealing bikes..mine was stolen from right under my nose and never resurfaced..i know several unsavoury characters and it still didn't turn up.
Has anybody ever bought a bike that turned out to be stolen. A lot of high quality MTBs have been robbed lately and we're still a relatively small community, you would notice if it turned up..or maybe you wouldn't.
To break in to an a apartment lock up takes a bit more proffessionalism than a casual robber .
I remember years and years ago me and my mate had our bikes robbed in town, the Guards told us there were two proffesional gangs driving around and robbing to order !! then there was a big raid on the Flats in Mounttown at the time and 50 bikes were recovered from a shed there..
Is there a black market for bikes ? I've had loads of bikes and have never been offered a stolen one..I've been offered everything else stolen, including a rubber dinghy, but never a bike!
Think I heard a while back that any good quality bikes that are robbed end up abroad, might explain them not showing up. That said, I've seen a few heads cruising around on bikes they have no business on, skangers on 8" dh bikes pedalling their hearts out trying to move the thing along the road

Similar to Colm's story, or possibly the same, a guy i work with (dermot - american) had 2 bikes robbed from his "secure" apartment storage. they broke through two secure doors and robbed 10 to 12 bikes. these were all good bikes, as the crappy ones are locked outside and none of these were touched. the Gardai said that bike theft is on the rise and higher than it's been since the 80's! and this big heist is more common now. Dermot's bike was locked with 2 kryptonite locks, and for other bike locks that they couldn't get through they cut the rail they were locked to!
best bet is locking them to your bed!
ive had 2 bikes stolen; one i found 10 days later. locked 10 meters from where it was stolen!
just had to kindly explain to the "new owner" that it was actually mine. :)
